Abstract

A procedure for preparing 4-benzodioxolyl carbamates of the formula **(See formula)** in which R1 and R2 are the same or different and each represents an alcohol group of 1 to 4 carbon atoms or together represents an alcohol chain of 5 to 7 carbon atoms, R5 represents a hydrogen atom, a group alcohol of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or an alkanoyl group of 2 to 5 carbon atoms; and R6 represents an alcohol group of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, an alkenyl group of 2 to 4 carbon atoms, or an alkynyl group of 2 to 4 carbon atoms; characterized by the fact that the corresponding 4-hydroxy-benzodioxol of the formula is reacted **(See formula)** wherein R1 and R2 are as defined above, prepared by reacting pyrogallol with a ketal of the formula **(See formula)** in which R1 and R2 are as defined above and R3 and R4 are the same or different and each represents an alcohol group of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, at least 90ºC, with (a) an isocyanate of the formula R6NCO (therefore R5 in the hydrogen product); (b) a carbamyl chloride of the formula (see formula) (except in cases where R5 is an alkanoyl group of 2 to 5 carbon atoms); or (c) phosgene, to form the corresponding 1,3-benzodioxolyl-4-chloroformate, reacting this with an amine or amide of formula (see formula); or (d) in cases where it is an alkanoyl group of 2 to 5 carbon atoms, by acylation of the corresponding compound in which R5 is hydrogen, prepared by process (a), (b) or (c).
