Abstract
An apparatus for continuous chopping of fiber-reinforced resin profiles comprising a forming device having a forming step therethrough with a cross-sectional configuration that substantially conforms to the cross-section of the profile to be made, means for impregnating a fibrous reinforcement with a liquid thermosetting resin material, means for introducing the impregnated reinforcement into the forming step and advancing it, and means for heating the impregnated reinforcement as it passes through the forming step to effect solidification of the resin material as it travels through the shaping step, characterized by an RF heating mechanism comprising means arranged on different sides of the impregnated reinforcement in its advance path from the impregnating means to the shaping step, said last means being separated from the impregnated reinforcement but it's being close enough to the impregnated reinforcement to establish an RF field capable of substantially preheating the impregnated reinforcement.
