Abstract
Rows 20 of boxes are fed to a freezer by an endless conveyer belt 21 from which the boxes are transferred by a pusher assembly on to freezer plates 19. These plates are supported in a cradle (not shown) which moves vertically by increments until all the plates are filled. A belt conveyer is also provided at the rear of the freezer. Pusher assembly.-A pusher bar 44 is hinged to a pair of drive members 41 each comprising sections 49 hinged at 50. Chains 82 are secured to the sections 49 and are engaged by sprockets 88 driven by an hydraulic motor 90. The drive members 41 are guided in tracks 56 and the pusher assembly is adjustable vertically. By automatically controlling and reversing the drive from the motor 90, a row of boxes is pushed on to a freezing plate after which, on its return from a position B, the bar 44 moves over the boxes. A further row of boxes is moved into position by the conveyer 21 as the first row is being moved by the pusher. When defrosting, the automatic control for the motor 90 may be put out of action and, the pusher assembly having been lowered to permit the pusher to engage the adjacent plate 19, the pusher, under manual control, is caused to travel to position C. In a modification, Figs. 7, 8 (not shown), a pivoted pusher (107) is raised and lowered by a double-acting hydraulic cylinder (108).
