A process for the separation of a mixture containing hydrocarbons by means of a liquid-liquid extraction with the use of a selective solvent of a boiling point higher than that of the mixture and in which at least one component of the mixture is more easily soluble and at least one other component is less easily soluble, obtaining a raffinate and an extract phase, the extract phase being separated in solvent and an extract, solvent being recovered from the raffinate and/or the extract by washing at least one of these by means of of an aqueous washing agent or means, such as water, characterized in that solvent is removed from the spent washing medium by contacting this medium at least in part with a hydrocarbon-containing mixture.
