Abstract

In a rotary drum system for a tape measure, (see Fig. 1), the drum 1 is mounted between flanges 2, 3, and supports a spring-loaded sleeve 9 mounting a crank handle 19. A disc 13, fitted against the wall of the drum, is formed with apertures which are engageable with projections on the drum these forming a clutch mechanism to ensure rotation of the crank in the correct direction. A recess 25 is formed in the drum and has shoulders 26, 27 which are adapted to co-operate with a slidable locking member 28 to secure the drum against rotation.
