Abstract

A method for imparting anticorrosive and slurry dispersing activity to distillate fuels by incorporating thereto from about 0.001 to 2.0% by weight of an active agent characterized by the fact that the agent comprises at least one cyclic amidine having the formula ** (See formula) ** wherein individually is alkyl alcohol of 1 to 24 carbon atoms, phenyl, naphthyl, benzyl, phenyl naphthyl or benzyl substituted, in which the total alkyl substituents contain up to a maximum of 16 carbon atoms; R2 individually is hydrogen or alkyl of 1 to 24 carbon atoms; R1 and R2 collectively form a morpholino, tiamorpholino, piperidino or pyrrolidinyl ring with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached; R3 is hydrogen, 2-hydroxyethyl, 2-aminoethyl, 5-hydroxypropyl, 3-aminopropyl, 2- (2-aminoethyl) -aminopropyl, 3- (2-aminopropyl) aminopropyl, 2- (2-aminoethyl) aminoethyl or 3- (2-aminopropyl) amino ethyl; X is ethylene, ethenylene, trimethylene, alkyl or substituted alkenyl ethylene having a total of up to 20 carbon atoms at most, 1,2-cyclohexylene, 1,2-cyclohexenylene, 1,2-substituted-alkyl-cyclohexylene or 1,2- cyclohexenylene having a total of up to 16 carbon atoms at most, 3,6-methane-1,2-cyclohexylene or 3,6-methane-1,2-cyclohexenylene; and D is 1,2-cyclohexylene or a saturated divalent chain of 2 to 3 carbon atoms whose available valences are satisfied by members of the class consisting of hydrogen and alkyl and combinations thereof in which said alcohol groups have a total of up to 12 carbon atoms at most and in which the number of total carbon atoms in R2 and X is at least 10.
