Abstract
Anthraquinone dyestuffs are made by treating an anthraquinone of the formula <FORM:0887876/IV (c)/1> where each X is hydrogen or hydroxyl and Aryl is a benzene residue which may be substituted at a temperature below 60 DEG C. in 75%-90% sulphuric acid with formaldehyde or an agent yielding formaldehyde, such as hexamethylene tetramine. The substituents in the benzene residue may be methyl or acylamino. The dyestuffs dye cellulose ester and polyethylene terephthalate fibres red-blue to green-blue shades from aqueous dispersion.
