Abstract

Process for obtaining 2-[[[3-methyl-4-(2,2,2- trifluoroethoxy)-2-pyridinyl]methyl]sulphinyl]-1H- benzimidazole. Comprises replacing the salient group in the 4 position of the pyridine in substituted 2-[[(3-methyl-2- pyridinyl)methyl]sulphinyl]-1H-benzimidazole derivatives by 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol in order to obtain the desired product which is isolated from the reaction mixture by conventional means. The product obtained has useful therapeutic properties deriving from its activities as an inhibitor of the secretion of gastric acid and its antiulcer activity.
