Abstract

Mats for cleaning surfaces, in particular foot-mats, are composed of a basic, mainly plastic material with a fibrous layer and a support layer for the fibrous layer, and of fibres having a bristle-like structure applied on the basic material. The mats are economically produced by using the technical advantages of the fibres and bristles. Parts of the basic material (2) are melted by heating the fibres (8), if necessary the support layer (9) as well, and compressed up to or into the support layer forming recesses (10) in the fibrous layer (8). Bristles (12) are introduced parallel to each other in the recesses (10) and linked with the compressed basic material by melting their extremities (13).
