Description

The invention relates to a magazine for processing wire end ferrules which are connected to one another via connecting webs to form a wire end ferrule strip, wherein the magazine has a housing.

Furthermore, the invention relates to a hand tool for crimping wire end ferrules with a stripped conductor end or with the strands of a conductor, with a handle, with at least two pressing jaws which can be brought together by actuating the handle and form a die in which the wire end ferrule can be positioned and with a magazine in which wire end ferrules are stored, wherein the wire end ferrules can be fed from the magazine to the die and wherein the handle can be moved from a first position to a second position.

The pressing of wire end ferrules onto a stripped conductor end or onto the strands of a conductor is also known in the art as crimping. Crimping involves joining two components together through plastic deformation, creating a homogeneous, difficult-to-break connection between the conductor and the wire end ferrule. Crimping is used as an alternative to soldering or welding in the creation of electrical connections. Using a manual machine or crimping pliers, the wires of a cable are positively connected to a wire end ferrule. Relatively high forces are required for this process. Usually, several wire end ferrules need to be crimped onto corresponding conductors one after the other. To save time, crimping tools are available with a storage magazine for wire end ferrules. After one wire end ferrule has been crimped, the next wire end ferrule can be inserted into the tool manually or automatically.

The EP 2 182 595 A2 For example, it shows a removable magazine for a hand-operated crimping tool. The DE 42 41 224 C1 discloses a crimping tool with a cylindrical magazine for holding a wire end ferrule strip. The magazine is arranged at a distance from the actual crimping station so that the beginning of the wire end ferrule strip is fed from the magazine through an opening in the housing of the crimping tool into the area of a transport device. The transport device has as an essential component a transport wheel which has recesses evenly distributed around its circumference and which can be rotated about an axis. The separation of an individual wire end ferrule from the strip takes place during the actual crimping process. The connecting web between the foremost wire end ferrule and the following wire end ferrule is torn off by a movable pressing jaw pressing the foremost wire end ferrule radially outwards, i.e. the normal radius of the recesses is exceeded, so that the foremost wire end ferrule is displaced radially outwards.

A disadvantage of the aforementioned magazines and handheld devices is their handling. It can be difficult to insert individual wire end ferrules into the magazine. When inserting stranded wires into interconnected wire end ferrules, the wires may be bent and not inserted into the ferrule because the rigidity of the handheld device makes inserting the conductors difficult. This can result in faulty crimp connections, which can sometimes lead to damage in devices in which the conductor is installed with the wire end ferrule.

The present invention is therefore based on the object of providing a magazine for processing wire end ferrules and a hand tool with a corresponding magazine, which ensure easier handling and improved process reliability.

According to a first teaching, the invention relates to a magazine in which the previously derived object is achieved. The magazine according to the invention is first and essentially characterized in that the housing has a magazine level in which the wire end ferrules can be separated from the wire end ferrule strip, that a cutting device is provided in the magazine level by which the wire end ferrules can be separated from one another, that a feed mechanism is provided in the magazine level by which the wire end ferrule strip can be transported in the magazine level, that the separated wire end ferrules are fed into a die level for processing can be conveyed, and that the magazine level and the die level are different from one another. Because the magazine level and the die level are different from one another, a wire end ferrule can be separated from the wire end ferrule strip and brought into the assembly position without the separated wire end ferrule already being arranged in the die level. In this way, it is possible for a wire end ferrule to be processed in the die level, for example, to be crimped onto the strands of a conductor, while at the same time the next wire end ferrule is separated from the wire end ferrule strip and brought into the assembly position. The crimped wire end ferrule is then removed from the magazine together with a crimped conductor, with the next wire end ferrule already ready in the assembly position. Another conductor can therefore be inserted into the magazine directly after the crimped wire end ferrule has been removed, so that the wire end ferrule is moved from the assembly position to the die level and can be crimped.

A conductor can be inserted into the wire end ferrule via a conductor insertion opening in the housing. For easy insertion of a conductor or the strands of a conductor into the wire end ferrule, one embodiment of the invention can provide a funnel-shaped conductor insertion opening that tapers conically toward the wire end ferrule to be processed. The conductor can then be easily inserted into the relatively large funnel opening and, due to the geometry of the conductor insertion opening, is guided to the wire end ferrule. Incorrect insertion of the conductor is thus impossible.

The magazine housing can have any geometry. Preferably, the housing is cylindrical. However, it can also have another rotationally symmetrical or asymmetrical shape.

To simplify operation of the magazine, a first design provides for the separated wire end ferrule to be moved into an assembly position by the cutting device. In the assembly position, a conductor can be inserted into the wire end ferrule and from there transported to the die level. The wire end ferrule is processed in the die level. Meanwhile, another wire end ferrule can be transferred to the assembly position.

In a further embodiment of the magazine according to the invention, the feed mechanism is designed as a resilient latching arm, which enables linear advancement of the wire end ferrules. A resilient latching arm can easily move the wire end ferrules within the magazine. For this purpose, it is conceivable that the resilient latching arm is arranged in its longitudinal extent transverse to the transport direction of the wire end ferrules or the wire end ferrule strip, so that it can be deflected in the transport direction. To improve the transport of the wire end ferrules, the resilient latching arm can be modeled on the contour of the wire end ferrules in the area in which it contacts the wire end ferrules. Wire end ferrules usually have a circular cross-section, so it is also conceivable for the resilient latching arm to describe part of a circular path in the contact area, i.e. the area in which the resilient latching arm contacts the wire end ferrules. The resilient latching arm then has an approximately shovel-shaped contour. The shovel-shaped or circular contour has the advantage that the locking arm can spring back better when it is retracted and thus slides over the next wire end ferrule or locks behind the next wire end ferrule.

To improve handling of the magazine, a further embodiment provides for the feed mechanism to be movable from a starting position to a forward position. In the starting position, the locking arm of the feed mechanism rests against a wire end ferrule. If the force applied by the feed mechanism is greater than the holding force acting on the wire end ferrule or the wire end ferrule strip, the feed mechanism is moved to the forward position. Because the spring-loaded locking arm rests against a wire end ferrule in the starting position of the feed mechanism, the wire end ferrule is also moved when the feed mechanism is moved from the starting position to the forward position.

When the feed mechanism is returned to its original position, the spring-loaded locking arm also returns to its original position. The spring-loaded design allows the spring-loaded locking arm to slide along the wire end ferrules, so that in the pre-tensioned position, it rests against a wire end ferrule again without displacing it.

To prevent excessive friction between the spring-loaded locking hook and the wire end ferrules, a further embodiment can provide an additional spring-loaded locking arm that blocks the movement of the wire end ferrules or the wire end ferrule strip when the feed mechanism is moved to the starting position, while allowing movement into the feeding position. Thus, the spring-loaded locking arm of the feed mechanism can be deflected along the wire end ferrules when moved to the starting position and engage behind one of the wire end ferrules in the starting position without also moving the wire end ferrules when moved to the starting position, and the spring-loaded locking arm cannot be deflected past the wire end ferrule.

In a preferred embodiment of the magazine, the wire end ferrules can be released by connecting the feed mechanism and the cutting device in such a way that the feed mechanism is arranged in the feed position when the cutting device is in a neutral position, i.e., not actuated. This means that the feed mechanism is moved into the feed position when the cutting device is no longer actuated. The cutting device can be connected to the feed mechanism via a mechanical component, preferably a lever. Articulated lever bearings can ensure that the feed mechanism is moved approximately transversely to the cutting device.

In a further embodiment of the invention, the cutting direction of the cutting device runs transversely to the orientation of the wire-end ferrule strip in the separation section. This allows the cutting device to precisely engage the space between two wire-end ferrules, i.e., the connecting web, and sever the connecting web before being moved back in the opposite direction. This way, the cutting device does not block the transport direction of the wire-end ferrules or the wire-end ferrule strip.

An advantageous embodiment of the invention provides that the cutting device has a blade, and that the cutting device can cut through a connecting web between two wire end ferrules. The blade can easily cut through the connecting webs. If the blade is sharp enough, a simple linear movement of the blade is sufficient. to sever the connecting webs. In a preferred embodiment, the blade can be slightly beveled so that it initially engages at a point on the connecting web and, as the blade is advanced further, cuts through the connecting web along a line. Thus, the linear movement of the blade transverse to the transport direction of the wire end ferrule strip is converted into a cutting movement oriented transversely to the movement of the blade.

To facilitate the separation of the wire end ferrules, a further embodiment of the invention provides that the cutting device comprises an element, preferably a wedge, by which the wire end ferrules can be separated from one another during the cutting process. The additional element can be tapered so that the wire end ferrules are pushed further apart during or after the cutting process when the tapered element is moved between the two wire end ferrules. The wedge can be arranged such that the separated wire end ferrule is tilted within the magazine by the wedge.

In order to further improve the handling of the magazine, a further embodiment of the magazine according to the invention provides that the cutting device can be moved from the neutral position into a cutting position and that the cutting device is held in the neutral position by an actuatable return element. In order to trigger a further cutting process, the return element is deflected so that the cutting device is moved from the neutral position into the cutting position. The return element can be a spring, for example. Due to the spring force of the return element, the cutting device strives to return to the neutral position. The return element can be held in the cutting position by appropriate locking mechanisms such as latching hooks or the like. This is preferably moved into the cutting position by actuating a lever or a similar component and severs the connecting web between two wire end ferrules. If the return element is released, the cutting device is moved back to the neutral position.

In order to facilitate the transfer of a wire end sleeve from the magazine level to the die level, an advantageous embodiment of the magazine according to the invention provides that a The wire end ferrule is positioned at an angle other than 0 degrees to the longitudinal extension of the wire end ferrules of the wire end ferrule strip. The angle between the longitudinal extension of the wire end ferrule of the wire end ferrule strip and the longitudinal extension of the wire end ferrule in the assembly position is preferably 20 degrees.

The separated wire end ferrule can be pushed away from the neighboring wire end ferrules by a holding element, such as a wedge, during the cutting process. This not only supports the severing of the connecting web, but also tilts the wire end ferrule. Due to the angle in the assembly position, the wire end ferrule does not have to be positioned directly over a possible opening in the housing through which a wire end ferrule is moved into the die plane. A conductor or the strands of a conductor are inserted into the wire end ferrule in line with the wire end ferrule in the assembly position. Any possible opening in the housing through which a wire end ferrule is moved into the die plane simply has to lie roughly in the line of movement of the inserted conductor so that the wire end ferrule can be moved from the assembly position into the die plane.

According to a second teaching, the invention relates to a hand tool for crimping wire end ferrules to a stripped conductor end or to the strands of a conductor, with a magazine for wire end ferrules, in which the previously derived object is achieved. The hand tool according to the invention is first and essentially characterized in that the magazine is designed according to the invention.

The statements regarding the magazine according to the invention also apply accordingly to the hand tool according to the invention with a fixed magazine.

The aforementioned handle of the hand tool can be designed like a pair of pliers. However, the handle can also serve solely to actuate a drive mechanism. The hand tool can be operated electrically, pneumatically, or hydraulically, for example. In these embodiments, the feed mechanism and the cutting device of the magazine are coupled to the linear or rotary movement of the crimping of the wire end ferrules.

The hand tool can be used to form a positive-locking connection between the wire end ferrule and the conductor or strands of a conductor. This involves a joining process known as crimping. The wire end ferrule, with the conductor inserted, is inserted into the die plane and pressed together by the pressing jaws in such a way that the wire end ferrule and the part of the conductor located in the wire end ferrule undergo plastic deformation. To increase the force that can be applied by the user, the hand tool can be equipped with a toggle lever. This is because the transmission ratio between applied force and resulting force, or from primary stroke to secondary stroke, continuously shifts during the movement. This allows the pressing jaws to initially achieve higher speeds with less force and, in the crucial range, a low speed with a high force.

The magazine connected to the hand tool allows wire end ferrules, into which a conductor has already been inserted in the advantageous manner described above, to be fed into the hand tool's die. A wire end ferrule in the assembly position can thus accommodate a conductor.

To ensure convenient operation of the magazine using the handle, one design provides for the handle to interact with the magazine in such a way that the cutting device is actuated when the handle is in the first position. In the first position, the arms of the handle are at a greater angle to one another than in the second position, meaning that to move the arms from the first to the second position, the handle must be pressed together. This pressing together also causes the wire end ferrule to be crimped in the die plane, with the die plane coinciding exactly with the die of the hand tool. After crimping, the handle is released again, meaning it is moved from the second position to the first position. When the handle is moved from the second position to the first position, the cutting device is actuated at the same time, so that another wire end ferrule has already been separated when the hand tool is ready to crimp another wire end ferrule.

Furthermore, in a further embodiment of the hand tool according to the invention, it is provided that the handle interacts with the magazine in such a way that that the feed mechanism is activated when the handle is operated. The feed mechanism thus transports the wire-end ferrule strip within the magazine level when the handle is operated. If a wire-end ferrule has already been separated by the cutting device, the wire-end ferrule strip is transported by the feed mechanism far enough the next time the handle is operated that the next wire-end ferrule can be separated from the wire-end ferrule strip.

For ease of use, diversion devices are provided. The diversion devices interact with the pliers-like handle and the crimping jaws in such a way that the crimping of at least one wire end ferrule onto a stripped conductor can be performed by manually operating the handle. This allows the user to crimp the wire end ferrules onto a conductor with minimal effort, simply by manually operating the handle.

In an advantageous embodiment of the hand tool according to the invention, the magazine is detachably connected to the hand tool, in particular by a snap-in connection. The magazine can be mounted on the hand tool, for example, by a rotating movement, similar to a bayonet lock, or by plugging it on. The precise positioning of the magazine is achieved via pins or other elevations that are formed on the magazine and engage in corresponding recesses. The pins or elevations can also be formed on the frame of the hand tool, and the corresponding recesses can be formed on the magazine. The snap-in connection can also be achieved, for example, by bent-over holding elements that engage behind the hand tool on the side opposite to that on which the magazine is attached. The positioning of the magazine thus prevents the magazine from slipping, although the magazine can be easily attached to the hand tool.

To increase the quality of crimping the wire end ferrule, an advantageous embodiment of the hand tool according to the invention provides more than two crimping jaws, so that a symmetrical crimping occurs between the wire end ferrule and the stripped conductor end or with the conductor strands. The crimping jaws are then moved toward each other not only from two sides, but from several directions. moved so that a symmetrical cross-section is created between the pressing jaws, i.e., a symmetrical die is created. One advantage of using more than two pressing jaws is that the geometry of the die remains the same or very similar over a large cross-sectional area. The pressing jaws close like a shutter, meaning that the geometry of the cross-section of the die does not change noticeably upon closing, as the pressing jaws are moved evenly toward each other.

For this purpose, an advantageous embodiment of the invention provides that the pressing jaws are arranged such that a square pressing action occurs. In an alternative embodiment of the invention, the pressing jaws are arranged such that a hexagonal pressing action occurs.

Fig. 1 shows a magazine 1 for processing wire end ferrules 2, which are connected via connecting webs 3 to form a wire end ferrule strip 4. The magazine has a housing 5 in which the wire end ferrules 2 are arranged. A cutting device 6 is provided for separating the wire end ferrules 2. A feed mechanism 7 is provided for transporting the wire end ferrules 2 or the wire end ferrule strip 4 within the magazine 1. The feed mechanism 7 comprises a spring-loaded locking arm 8, which Fig. 1 is arranged between two wire end ferrules 2. A blade 9 is arranged on the cutting device 6 to separate the wire end ferrules 2. The feed mechanism 7 is connected to a return element 10.

The cutting device 6 and the feed mechanism 7 are connected to one another via an angle lever 11 such that tilting the angle lever 11 leads to a movement of both the cutting device 6 and the feed mechanism 7. The angle lever 11 is T-shaped overall, so that a total of three lever arms are present: a first lever arm 12, a second lever arm 13, and a third lever arm 14. The first lever arm 12 is articulated to the cutting device 6 via a slotted hole connection 15. The second lever arm 13 is articulated to the feed mechanism 7. The third lever arm 14 protrudes from the housing 5 so that it can be actuated outside the housing 5 and thus actuates the cutting device 6 and the feed mechanism 7 simultaneously.

From the Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 the interaction of the cutting device 6 and the feed mechanism 7 is visible. In Fig. 1 the return element 10 is released. The cutting device 6 is not actuated, i.e. the blade 9 is at the greatest possible distance from the wire end ferrules 2. When the cutting device 6 is not actuated, the feed mechanism 7 is oriented such that the spring-loaded locking arm 8 rests against the wire end ferrule 2 to be separated, so that the wire end ferrule strip 4 is positioned for separation.

In Fig. 2 the cutting device 6 is actuated, i.e. the blade 9 has severed the connecting web 3 between two wire end sleeves 2. The reset element 10 is deflected and strives to move the cutting device 6 into the neutral position. The blade 9 is arranged in a wedge-shaped receptacle 16. The wedge-shaped receptacle 16 presses against the wire end ferrule 2 to be separated, causing it to move away from the wire end ferrule strip 4. At the same time, the wedge-shaped receptacle 16 is arranged such that it tilts the separated wire end ferrule 2 as it is pushed away. In this tilted assembly position, the wire end ferrule 2 can then be transported from the magazine level to the die level.

While the cutting device 6 is actuated, the feed mechanism 7 is moved to its actual starting position. During the movement from the feed position, i.e., the position in which the wire end ferrule strip 4 is aligned for separation, to the starting position, the spring-loaded locking arm 9 is deflected and slides along the diameter of the nearest wire end ferrule 2 until it can again engage in the space between two wire end ferrules 2 without deflection. When the feed mechanism 7 is actuated again, the spring-loaded locking hook 9 then moves the wire end ferrule strip 4 into the position in which the next wire end ferrule 2 can be separated.

Fig. 3 shows the magazine according to the Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 with a housing cover 17 and a conductor insertion opening 18. A conductor 19 or the strands of the conductor 19 can be inserted into the conductor insertion opening 18. Since the isolated wire end ferrule 2 is aligned at an angle in relation to the other wire end ferrules 2 in the assembly position, the conductor 19 is also initially inserted at an angle into the conductor insertion opening 18. For this purpose, the conductor insertion opening has a funnel-shaped section 20. The funnel-shaped section 20 correctly positions the conductor 19 so that the strands of the conductor 19 can be correctly inserted into the wire end ferrule. By further inserting the conductor 19, the wire end ferrule 2 together with the conductor 19 is moved from the assembly position or from the magazine level to the die level, where the wire end ferrule 2 can then be crimped. The conductor 19 can then be pulled straight out of the conductor insertion opening 18 again, while the next wire end ferrule 2 is already positioned in the assembly position.

Fig. 4 shows the magazine 1 according to the Fig. 1 , 2 and 3 in a perspective view. It can be seen that the third lever arm 14 of the angle lever 11 partially protrudes from the housing 5. Thus, the angle lever 11 can also be easily operated outside the housing 5. The wire end ferrules 2 are guided in a channel 21 within the housing.

Fig. 5 and Fig. 6 show a hand tool 22 for crimping wire end ferrules 2 or, more precisely, for crimping wire end ferrules 2 with stripped conductor ends or with the strands of a conductor 19. The hand tool 22 has a pliers-like handle 23 designed to move several pressing jaws (not shown here) towards each other. The pressing jaws form a die that coincides with the die plane and into which the wire end ferrule 2 can be inserted and crimped. A magazine 1 for processing wire end ferrules 2 is attached to the hand tool 22. The magazine 1 is arranged such that the conductor insertion opening 18 of the magazine is positioned such that a wire end ferrule 2 with an inserted conductor can be easily passed through the die. The wire end ferrules 2 are inserted into the magazine 1 in connected wire end ferrule strips 4 and separated within the magazine 1. A wire 19 can be inserted into a wire end ferrule 2 that is in the assembly position through the wire insertion opening 18. If the wire 19 is pushed further into the wire insertion opening 18, the wire 19, together with the wire end ferrule 2, is guided into the die of the hand tool 22 and ideally positioned. With the help of the hand tool 22, a crimp connection can then be created between the wire end and a wire end ferrule 2. After the crimping process, the wire 19, together with the wire end ferrule 2, is pulled out of the magazine 1.

Fig. 5 shows the hand tool 22 with the handle 23 not actuated, while Fig. 6 shows the hand tool with the handle 23 actuated. The handle 23 is connected to the third lever arm 14, so that actuation of the handle 23 also leads to actuation of the third lever arm 14 and thus also to actuation of the first lever arm 12 and the second lever arm 13 arranged in the housing 5 of the magazine 1. In this way, the separation and positioning of a wire end ferrule 2 in the assembly position can take place automatically by actuating the handle 23.

Fig. 7 shows the hand tool 22 according to Fig. 5 and Fig. 6 with an inserted conductor 19, which is currently being crimped with a wire end ferrule 2. The Wire end ferrule strips 4 can be easily inserted into the magazine 1 from the outside via an insertion opening 24. Once the wire end ferrule strip 4 has been brought into the area of the feed mechanism 7, separation and positioning can be achieved using the handle 23.
