Description

The invention relates to a belt according to the preamble of claim 1.

The seat belts used in motor vehicles, often used in conjunction with belt tensioners controlled by the operating state of the vehicle, have widths of usually 46 mm to 48 mm. They are intended to protect the vehicle occupants in the event of an accident from uncontrolled, considerable risk of injury resulting in slingshots within the vehicle, but without restricting his freedom of movement under normal operating conditions excessively. These seatbelts have proven to be extremely useful and, since their widespread introduction on the road, have made a significant contribution to the reduction of serious accident injuries.

On the other hand, the currently used width dimensions of such a belt are not considered to be optimal, since in an accident the local forces may be too high in terms of the physical forces to be transmitted via the belt and the associated risks of injury, particularly in the case of a unfavorable posture of the vehicle occupant can be considerable. These currently used width measures have been introduced at the time also under the aspect, although represent an increased level of driving safety, on the other hand, to affect the ride comfort as little as possible.

To reduce injury risks while maintaining the ride comfort is from the document DE 43 26 499 A1 a seat belt system has become known whose straps have a hose-like, with a gas generating device related structure. The gas generating device which can be activated by a deceleration sensor is used to generate a structure which acts on said structure High-pressure gas set up, which is designed with the proviso that it in the longitudinal direction of the straps practically not at all, but in the transverse direction but considerably stretching, thus increasing the width of the straps in an emergency situation, and thereby reducing the risk of injury of the belted vehicle occupant. The structure is made up of two webbing base fabric pieces having the width of a conventional seat belt and sewn together along their longitudinal edges, the warp and weft threads of which are each characterized by the warp being in the longitudinal direction and the weft being transverse to the webbing extend. To illustrate the above-mentioned different elongation properties in the transverse and longitudinal direction of the belt, the warp threads are made of a material of high strength, which is practically non-stretchable, whereas the weft yarns in contrast from a rubbery stretchy material, eg. B. made of polyurethane. In order to achieve these elongation properties, a not inconsiderable expense is required, which is expressed in a tubular belt structure, a deceleration sensor and a gas generating device.

It is the object of the invention to improve a belt of the type described above in such a way that in a simpler way emanating from this in an accident local stress and the associated risk of injury to the vehicle occupant can be reduced. This problem is solved in such a belt by the features of the characterizing part of claim 1.

According to the invention, fabric structures are used for the belt, in which the weft threads have a significantly higher elongation capability compared to the warp threads. This means that under a load applied in the longitudinal direction of the belt, the warp threads which are not elongatable relative to the weft threads are rectilinearly aligned, starting from their structure wound around the weft threads, in accordance with the load, so that in this respect a displacement force is produced on the weft threads, starting from their originally rectilinear to a structure wound around the warp threads. It thus arises when a load of the belt in the longitudinal direction of an elongation of the weft threads in accordance with a rectilinear orientation of the hardly or hardly elongated warp threads. Depending on the applied load, the original fabric structure, characterized by straight weft threads and warp threads wound around them, is thus replaced by a structure in which the warp threads are aligned in a straight line and the weft threads are wound around them. In this case, the weft threads are displaced into the space between two warp threads, so that these laterally separate from each other and so far an increase in the belt width occurs.

The difference in the elongation ability of warp and weft threads is thus designed to result in an increase in the width dimension of the belt as a result of insertion of weft threads between two adjacent warp threads under a defined load, which has to accommodate a vehicle seat belt in an accident. The extent required for elongation against a virtually barely elongated warp thread is determined by this purpose.

In principle, in such a fabric structure all yarns known to the person skilled in the art of weaving and having adequate strength properties can be used which, when used as warp threads, are hardly or hardly elongated and which, in contrast, have a significantly increased elongation capability in the case of use as weft threads.

The use of such a fabric structure as a vehicle seat belt means that it can be produced in conventional width dimensions and accordingly readily usable in conjunction with conventional retractor systems. Of particular advantage for the vehicle occupant, however, is its property of increasing the width under load width dimension, so that there is a reduction of a risk of injury due to larger contact surfaces on the body of the vehicle occupant.

According to the features of claim 2 are used as weft yarns such yarns, which already have a sufficient elasticity for material reasons. These threads can be used as a single component or in combination with other materials, eg. B. in the form of Coregarnen be used.

According to the features of claims 3 to 5 are used as weft yarns such yarns, which have been changed with regard to the representation of a sufficient elongation in their structure. This brings, for example, the advantage that warp and weft threads can be made of the same material, so that the belt thus produced is characterized by purity of variety. Finally, in order to demonstrate a sufficient elongation capability, measures aimed at altering the structure of the thread can be combined with the selection of a particular material so that, for example, an already elastic thread for material reasons is additionally subjected to a structural treatment in order to further increase the elongation capability influence.

A fabric type modified in the above sense may uniformly affect the entire belt length. In principle, sufficient with regard to a reduction of injury risks, however, such a belt, in which such a type of fabric is used only in the sections of the belt, which directly on the body of the vehicle occupant, z. B. abut the chest area.

  • Fig. 1 eine beispielhafte Darstellung des grundsätzlichen Aufbaus eines Gurtgewebes;
  • Fig. 2 eine Darstellung des Aufbaus eines lastfreien erfindungsgemäßen Gurtgewebes;
The invention will be explained in more detail below with reference to the exemplary embodiments schematically illustrated in the drawings. Show it:
  • Fig. 1 an exemplary representation of the basic structure of a belt fabric;
  • Fig. 2 a representation of the structure of a load-free belt fabric according to the invention;
  • Fig. 3 a representation of the belt fabric according to Fig. 1 under a load in the belt longitudinal direction.

The belt fabric according to Fig. 1 shows the type of bond between the warp threads 1 extending in the longitudinal direction 2 of the belt and the weft threads 3 extending transversely to the warp threads 1. It is recognized that the weft threads 3 are each in a double arrangement 5 and that a warp thread 1 is two such wraps around successive assemblies 5. It can also be seen that the warp threads 1 following one another in a transverse direction 4 are each arranged offset relative to one another by such an arrangement in the longitudinal direction 2.

Fig. 1 shows only to illustrate the fabric structure in particular the warp threads 1 in a comparatively far apart arrangement. In an in Fig. 2 On the other hand, the warp yarns 1 lie close to each other, whereby the result is a characteristic surface structure due to the arrangement of the side-by-side warp yarns 1 offset in the longitudinal direction 2.

In the Figures 2 and 3 are features that with those of Fig. 1 agree, quantified accordingly, so that so far can be dispensed with a repeated description.

The Fig. 1 and 2 show the belt fabric in the load-free state. It can be seen that under this condition, the warp threads 1, the weft threads 3 wrap around, that is within the fabric in a uniformly wound shape. This applies equally to all warp threads 1. It is further evident that in the arrangements 5, the weft threads 3, however, have a substantially rectilinear course, that is, in turn, in any case not wound around the warp threads 1.

In this fabric structure in which the turns of the warp threads are characterized in the unloaded state by the offset described above in the longitudinal direction, there is also a displacement of the warp threads in the transverse direction 4, so that these - seen in a plan view - in accordance with a slightly zigzag structure run. The warp threads 1 extend within the belt fabric, moreover, always in its longitudinal direction 2, thus the direction in which the belt has to absorb forces in the event of an accident.

According to the invention, the warp threads 1 consist of a material which is usually used for this purpose and which does not elongate or barely elongate, whereas the weft threads 3 in contrast have a distinct elongation capability. It can be represented an increased elongation by an appropriate choice of materials, by the structure of the yarns used for the threads or by combinations of these two basic options.

At a load in the longitudinal direction 2, which is mainly to take over the warp threads 1, these, as in Fig. 3 shown opposite the in Fig. 2 stretched state shown, so that their wound in the unloaded state around the weft threads 3 structure is now aligned in a straight line. This causes the weft threads 3 under elongation now surround the warp threads 1, where in each case a weft thread 3 or an assembly 5 of weft threads 3 between two warp threads 1 is displaced, so that the warp threads 1 in the transverse direction 4 from each other by this measure remove. This in turn leads to an increase in the width dimension of the belt.

Such a change in width does not arise in a prior art belted fabric because the material constituting the weft yarns 3 is not or hardly extensible in the same manner as that of the warp yarns, so that the belt widened under load is virtually prevented by the non-elongated weft, since the tortuous structure of the warp in such a fabric is actually regarded as unchangeable even under load.

The drawings show a belt fabric based on a K2 / 2 Koeperbindung. However, the invention is not limited to such a bond and can be used in principle in all known to the expert in the field of weaving technology for use in such straps bonds.

It can be seen that the use properties of vehicle seat belts can be further improved by the use of a belt webbing according to the invention, since in an accident a load-related widening of the belt and thus an enlargement of its contact surface on the body of the vehicle occupant comes with the consequence of a corresponding reduction in the risk of injury ,

Belt for use as a vehicle safety belt having a weave structure consisting of warp threads (1) and weft threads (3), wherein the warp threads (1) extend in a longitudinal direction (2) corresponding to the loading direction of the belt, and the weft threads (3) extend in a transverse direction (4) thereto, wherein in the unloaded state the warp threads (1) are wound around the weft threads (3) and the weft threads (3) extend substantially in a straight line with respect thereto, and wherein at least in one length-wise portion of the belt the weft threads (3) are formed so as to be able to lengthen in comparison to the warp threads (1), characterised in that the lengthening ability of the weft threads (3) is set under the proviso that in the event that loading is applied in the longitudinal direction (2) the warp threads (1) are stretched substantially in a straight line starting from their structure wound around the weft threads (3), and the weft threads (3) starting from their substantially straight structure are wound around the warp threads (1) when these warp threads are displaced laterally, thereby increasing the width dimension of the belt.
  2. Belt as claimed in claim 1, characterised in that the weft threads (3) are formed by elastic threads.
  3. Belt as claimed in claim 1 or 2, characterised in that the weft threads (3) are formed from yarns which are conditioned by means of partial stretching and/or texturing so as to be able to lengthen.
  4. Belt as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 3, characterised in that the weft threads (3) are conditioned by means of woven-in loops so as to be able to lengthen.
  5. Belt as claimed in claim 3 or 4, characterised in that the weft threads (3) are formed in an identical material to the warp threads (1).
