Description
The invention relates to a device for monitoring the condition of a driver according to the preamble of claim 1.
Devices of the type described in the introduction have already become known in various embodiments.
Both described embodiments have in common that the driver is exposed to a conscious test situation, which may be distracting under certain circumstances.
The invention has for its object to provide a device for monitoring the condition of a driver, in which a state test by the driver is relatively less disturbing.
This object is solved by the features of
".The invention is initially based on a device for monitoring the condition of a vehicle driver of a vehicle, comprising means for outputting a test stimulus, such as a test signal or a test question, and an evaluation unit for determining the driver's reaction to the test stimulus. A first essential aspect of the invention lies in the fact that the test stimulus is output in a form that is also part could be a request situation to the driver in a conventional Fahrablauf so that the driver aware of the test stimulus perceives, but this does not immediately understand as a test stimulus. The test stimulus is, so to speak, mixed into the normal course of driving a vehicle without immediately attracting attention as a test stimulus. At the same time, the test stimulus can represent an actual request situation, ie in the course of a drive, a response or reaction is actually required by the vehicle driver. This situation can then be used to test the driver completely hidden. However, the test stimulus may also be generated extra for the test without requiring the driver to respond to immediate driving. However, according to the invention, care must be taken that the test stimulus is "camouflaged", as it were, so that the vehicle driver does not immediately feel that he is in a test situation. These approaches have the advantage that the test stimulus is not perceived as disturbing in a way that the driver has thoughts of "Why am I being tested?" Or "Another test!".
A test stimulus may be, for example, to request the driver a conscious answer to a question directly addressed to him, such as "Should the navigation route be maintained despite the current traffic situation?", "Should a particular assistance system be activated (eg ACC) or its Parameters are changed? ". These questions could also be part of a conventional driving process, so that the driver is hardly able to identify such questions as test questions and therefore find them disturbing. Rather, the driver assumes that answering the questions are part of the conventional process, which is actually the case, although tested at the same time. In this case can thus test and actual requirement situation are connected in an advantageous manner.
In a further essential core idea of the invention, the test stimulus is output in a form which unconsciously demands the vehicle driver, in particular knee-jerk reactions. This measure has the advantage that the driver does not immediately see in a test situation, which can be perceived as annoying.
This test form may be e.g. are acoustic or visual stimuli to which the driver responds with a physiological reflex (e.g., skin temperature change, head movement, or the like).
In a further advantageous embodiment of the test form, in which the system is waiting for an unconscious reaction, the test stimulus may also comprise a haptic stimulus. For example, a roadway unevenness is simulated by a small deflection on the steering wheel, which provokes a corresponding steering movement to compensate for this disturbance from the driver or required.
In the respective tests, it is not only of interest that the driver responds to the test stimulus at all, but above all how this happens, eg how fast the head has moved, how big and how fast were the steering corrections, etc .. Therefore moreover, it is proposed that means be provided for determining the manner of providing the driver's reaction. Depending on the result of the reaction classification conclusions can then be drawn on the degree of vigilance of the driver.
An embodiment of the invention is shown in the single figure.
The figure shows a control circuit shown schematically, which is intended to illustrate the operation of a device according to the invention for monitoring the condition of a vehicle driver. The problem of monitoring the condition of the driver can be understood as a control technology task in which the response to a defined test signal is examined in order to obtain information about the system properties of the controller, in the present case the driver. A change in the system characteristics of the controller by changing the behavior of the driver gives evidence of a changed driver state.
In FIG. 1, 1 denotes a driver state recognition unit. The driver state detection unit 1 outputs a test stimulus via an
