Description

The invention relates to a device for the wet treatment of photographic substrates, in which a substrate is guided between a pair of insertion rollers and a squeeze roller in a trough-like container between the rollers of a pair of feed rollers and wetted with treatment liquid.

A similar device is known from DE-OS 32 30175. However, several pairs of transport rollers are provided which define a transport plane for the layer support, the liquid level being above this transport plane. The layer support is thus drawn through the bath, the rollers only serving as transport rollers and not as rinsing or squeezing rollers. It is also not clear how the relatively small amount of treatment liquid in the device could be constantly renewed or regenerated.

The invention is based on the object of designing a device of the type mentioned in such a way that with a small volume of treatment liquid in the device and greatly reduced oxidation possibilities for the treatment liquid, a uniform distribution of the treatment liquid on the wash-up rollers and a constant exchange of the treatment liquid are possible.

This object is achieved by the features of the main claim. Further advantageous features of the invention can be found in the subclaims.

The invention is explained in more detail with reference to drawings. Show it
  • 1 is a partially sectioned view of a device according to the invention along the section line II of Figure 2,
  • 2 shows a section through the parts of the device according to section line 11-11 of FIG. 1.

In FIG. 1, a set-up and collecting trough for a treatment device and a storage container for the treatment liquid and the lines provided between the two parts are designated by 1. Instead of a tub 1, two tubs could also be provided for the treatment device and the storage container. In the tub or tubs 1, the treatment device 2 and the storage container 3 as well as the lines designed as rigid tubes or elastic hoses are mounted in a known manner, for example set up or suspended or fixed to the tub walls with clamps.

The treatment device 2 has three roller pairs 6a, 6b, 7a, 7b, 8a, 8b arranged one behind the other in the transport direction 4 of a layer support 5, of which the first roller pair 6a, 6b is an insertion roller pair, the second roller pair 7a, 7b is a pre-wash roller pair for wetting the layer support 5 and the third pair of rollers 8a, 8b represent a pair of squeeze rollers. According to its function, the pre-wash roller pair 7a, 7b is arranged at the lowest point, so that the contact plane of the two pre-wash rollers 7a, 7b defining the layer support web forms the lowest region of the layer support web. The respective lower rollers 6a, 7a, 8a are arranged in a trough-like container 9, the bulges 9a, 9b and 9c for the rollers 6a, 7a, 8a and in between inclined surfaces 9d and 9e as guide surfaces for a layer support 5 between the rollers 6a, 6b , 6c. The bulges 9a and 9c for the lower insertion roller 6a and the lower squeeze roller 8a can only be approximately adapted to the shape of the rollers 6a and 8a at a greater distance therefrom. In contrast, the bulge 9b for the lower feed roller 7a hugs its shape like a cage. The guide surfaces 9d, 9e each run obliquely downwards from the upper, inner end of the bulge 9a or 9c to the upper edge of the bulge 9b. On the tub-like container 9, an upper housing part 10 is placed, which has bulges 10a, 10b and 10c for the rollers 6b, 7b, 8b and between them to the guide surfaces 9d, 9e approximately parallel guide surfaces 10d, 10e. The bulges 10a, 10b, 10c, can very closely follow the rollers 6b, 7b, 7c. All bulges 9a, 9b, 9c, 10a, 10b, 10c are open to the layer carrier web. Between the trough-like container 9 and the upper housing part 10, slots 11, 12 are provided on the walls perpendicular to the direction of transport 4 for inserting and dispensing the layer supports 5.

Fig. 2. So that the pre-wash roller pair 7a, 7b is always uniformly rinsed with fresh treatment liquid 13 and thus uniformly wets a layer support 5, a pre-distribution channel 9f or 10f is formed in the apex line of each of the bulges 9b, 10b, which channel extends from the central plane 14 in the transport direction 4 tapered on both sides in the direction of the substrate width, cf. 2. The treatment liquid 13 is pumped into these pre-distribution channels 9f, 10f from the storage container 3 by means of a pump 15 via a main feed line 16, which then branches into two feed lines 16a, 16b. Openings of the feed lines 16a, 16b in the pre-distribution channels 9f, 10f lie in the region of the central plane 14, preferably approximately perpendicular to the layer carrier web. However, the supply lines could also open into the pre-distribution channels 9f, 10f parallel or inclined to the layer carrier web. It would also be possible to provide the feed lines at one end of the pre-distributor channel, in which case the pre-distributor channels would have to taper from the mouth to their other end.

By pumping the treatment liquid 13 into the pre-distribution channels 9f, 10f, it is initially distributed evenly over the channel length and then correspondingly rinses the pre-wash rollers 7a, 7b from below or from above, so that the pre-wash rollers in turn ensure uniform wetting of the layer support 5 effect across its width. So that the treatment liquid 13 supplied to the layer support 5 and used during its treatment with regard to its composition is easily renewed can be provided on the deepest areas of the bulges 9a, 9c for the other two lower rollers 6a, 8a drainage nozzles, which open into return lines 17a, 17b, which converge into a common line 17. The return line 17 leads into the storage container 3, namely above its normal liquid level. The used treatment liquid flowing back under the pressure of the pump 15 then mixes with the fresh treatment liquid, and when the level drops, regenerated liquid can be supplied via a further inlet 3a. The control of the regenerative feed can be controlled by level sensors 18a, 18b. A heater 19 can also be provided in the storage container 3, which can be controlled by thermostats which can be arranged both in the container 3 and in the lines 16 or in the trough-shaped container 9.

12 liegen. For a number of types of substrates or development processes, it may be expedient that the development is not carried out as a mere rinsing process, but that the substrate 5 is moved through a dipping bath for a small part of its way, with the rotating transport rollers 7a, 7b ensuring uniform washing and wetting is additionally promoted. According to FIG. 1, this is achieved in that so much treatment liquid is pumped in that liquid accumulates in the tub-like container 9 up to a certain level. For this purpose, it is necessary that the upper edge 9g of the container 9 is higher than the lower edges of the upper bulge 10b for the upper wash-on roller 7b, so that the latter, when the container 9 is filled, simply because of its position, even in the liquid present in the tub-like container 9 immersed. In this case, it may be expedient to provide valves in the drain lines 17a, 17b which are opened automatically when the desired liquid level in the container 9 is exceeded. In any case, this liquid level should be below the lower edges of the feed or discharge slot 11 or 12.

For the sake of simplicity, only one possible exemplary embodiment according to the invention is shown in the figures. In principle, it would be possible to design the wash-on rollers 7a, 7b with their cages 9b, 10b and their pre-distributor channels 9f, 10f as a developer unit and to arrange the insertion and squeeze rollers separately therefrom. In this case, the insertion and squeeze rollers could possibly can also be stored at the same level as the wash-up rollers and, if necessary, in their own small, separately installed cages. All pairs of rollers can be stored and driven in any known manner, as is indicated in FIG. 2.
