Definitions
- the invention relates to a knife sharpener that can be rolled on a base according to the preamble of claim 1.
- knife sharpeners have become known through the BE-PS 556718 and the DE-GM 1867 319 already arranged in pairs, resiliently pressed grinding wheels with intermeshing toothed rings, which form a V-shaped gap between them with mutually inclined peripheries. Through this the knife blade to be sharpened pulled while the grinding wheels are driven separately from it. A single work step is sufficient for sharpening, but the grind obtained with the grinding direction running parallel to the cutting edge is again only slightly durable.
- the invention has for its object to provide a simple and easy to use knife sharpener, which results in a more durable cut. This object is achieved by the combination of features specified in claim 1.
- the intermeshing toothed rings known per se are used in a new way, which does not allow any tangential relative movement to occur between the knife blade and the toothed ring.
- the slight radial displacements which the cutting edge experiences during the continuous penetration between the mutually elastically pressed / pressed sprockets during the rolling process are sufficient to give it a sufficient grinding in the course of fewer reciprocating movements it is also more stable than the conventional cuts mentioned.
- the latter is due to the fact that the grinding marks run perpendicular to the cutting edge, as is the case with factory grinding.
- the subclaims indicate preferred design options for the invention. It has proven particularly expedient to produce the two ring gears separately from the roller rollers, which are generally made of plastic, from a ceramic abrasive material, for example based on aluminum oxide or from metal, which is coated with a suitable abrasive material. A corresponding preferred embodiment of the invention is described below with reference to the drawing. Of which shows
- Fig. 2 in the upper half a side view and in the lower half a central longitudinal section through the knife sharpener in question.
- the knife sharpener shown has two essentially the same, made of plastic rollers 2 and 4, which differ only in that the roller 2 has a threaded hole 6 in its center, the roller 4, however, has a somewhat further cylinder bore 8.
- a screw bolt 16, locked by a lock nut 14, is screwed into the threaded bore 6, on which the roller 4 is axially displaceable and easily tiltable by means of its cylinder bore 8.
- the screw bolt 16 has a flat head 18 on the underside, which can be accommodated in the annular extension 12.
- the blind hole 10 of the roller 4 receives a helical spring 20 which tries to press the roller 4 against the roller 2.
- the rollers 2 and 4 each have a flat groove 22, into which a rectangularly profiled rubber tire 24 is inserted as a friction lining.
- the blind bore 10 of the roller 2 is closed by an elastic plug cap 26.
- the two rollers 2 and 4 are arranged in mirror symmetry. While they are excluded on the outside for the purpose of saving material and weight, they have a continuous wall 28 at the height of the bore 6 or 8.
- a flat, rectangularly profiled ring groove 30 is provided in the vicinity of its circumference, which has a separate ring gear 32 records.
- the two mutually identical sprockets 32 are glued to the respective roller and each have about 25 teeth on their sides facing each other, with which they can interlock.
- the periphery of the sprockets is conical, so that there is a V-shaped gap 36 between the two sprockets.
- the two ring gears 32 either consist entirely of a ceramic abrasive material based on aluminum oxide and / or silicon carbide, or else of metal, which has a permanent, at least on the conical periphery and the opposing end faces 38.
- Abrasive material coating is provided. Such consists for example of about 20% tungsten carbide, 40% silicon carbide and 40% of a ceramic binder, to which a hard chrome coating is applied. The tips and edges of the carbide crystals appear through the hard chrome coating in order to exert an excellent grinding effect, but the coating mentioned is very durable and relatively inexpensive to manufacture.
- the knife sharpener described so far is placed upright on a flat surface, such as a table top, whereupon the knife blade to be sharpened is inserted from above through the V-shaped gap 36 between the two ring gears 32.
- the two sprockets together with the subsequent rollers 2 and 4 are pushed apart a little in the area concerned, at most until the head 18 of the screw bolt 16 comes to rest on the base of the annular extension 12 (the screw bolt is adjusted accordingly).
- the knife blade receives secure guidance. If the knife blade is now guided parallel to the base over it, the knife sharpener rolls on the base, the end faces 38 of the toothed rings 32 moving along the flanks of the knife blade. In this way, a sharper sharpening can be obtained quickly and reliably than, for example, by means of the knife sharpener mentioned at the beginning. But the knife sharpener described is just as light and handy and does not require a fixed attachment.

Abstract
Rolling knife sharpener placed on a support and comprising two rollers (2, 4) with springs bearing against one another of identical dimensions and having essentially the same axis. On their adjacent sides, the rollers have conical toothed rings (32) which mesh and which, at least on the adjacent surfaces of the teeth (38), are made of a durable abrasive material. The blade of the sharpening knife is inserted between the two toothed crowns, the latter being separated by an appropriate gap. The sharpening effect is obtained thanks to the relative movement of the surfaces of the teeth of the toothed crowns with respect to the blade of the knife pulled or pushed between them, while the sharpener rolls on its support.
