Abstract

A shank for a drill or similar tool of rotary and percussion type has a cylindrical outer surface 20, 21, 22 with a pair of axially running channels 11 formed therein. The said channels 11 are at an angular interval of 120 degrees from one another and are designed to engage with two of the jaws in a drill chuck having three jaws. A flattening 19 on the opposite side of the tool shank 15 is designed to engage with the third jaw of the drill chuck. The flattening 19 means that the tool shank can also be accommodated in a tool holder of the socket type having an internal flattening, which can engage with the flattening 19 on the shank.
