Die bisher für ähnliche Zwecke benutzten Salzlösungen erfüllen jene Bedingungen nicht und sind überdies verhältnismäßig teuer; sie schlagen bei starker Konzentration aus und geben insbesondere gefärbten Papieren ein fleckiges, unansehnliches Aussehen; wählt man eine schwächere Konzentration der Lösung, um das Austreten des Salzes beim Trocknen des Papiers zu verhüten, so ist das Papier nicht mehr unverbrennlich. .
