Description

Production of metallurgical products from zinc chloride solutions. It is known that it has hitherto been extremely difficult in practice to obtain from heavy metal chloride solutions, z. B. Chlorzinclaugen to obtain metallurgical products. If you drop such lyes with lime, then one obtains a precipitate which is extremely difficult to filter and which is still contains significant amounts of chlorine. It is true that this chlorine can be removed by repeated treatment remove from the precipitate with lime, but you have to use the "solution" every time separate from the soil body, which is practically impossible because of the latter neither settles nor can be filtered in a technically feasible manner. It is it has been proposed to generate chlorine-free precipitates from zinc chloride solutions, by treating the suspension resulting from the addition of lime with plaster of paris. In this way one actually arrives at somewhat filterable precipitates, which are practical are chlorine-free, but contain sulfur in the form of basic zinc sulfate and must therefore be treated at a very high temperature to remove it.

It has now been shown that it is surprisingly easy to get out Chlorine zinc solutions can produce metallurgical zinc products by working in the same Way with lime the zinc hydroxide falls and introduces into the cloudy carbonated gases. The precipitated hydrogen oxide is converted into carbonate, and if only this reaction a part -z. B. half - of the precipitated hydroxide is converted into carbonate has succeeded in filtering off the precipitate and practically completely by washing to get rid of chlorine. Best to treat are the precipitates that are perfect have been converted into carbonate. You can tell that the basic reaction, which was created in the turbidity by the addition of lime disappears. The washed one The residue can be dried and the usual method either directly or after calcination has taken place send to metallurgical furnaces.

It has been proposed to use zinc chloride solutions with calcium carbonate to precipitate and in this way to produce zinc carbonate directly from it. In the cold but calcium carbonate zinc only precipitates very incompletely; in the heat this becomes only achieved by ground limestone if the comminution is carried out very far has been so that calcium carbonate as a technical precipitant for zinc in the Large enterprise has not been introduced. In contrast, according to the present Invention of the precipitation of zinc as carbonate completely in the cold without special Difficulties in using the trick, first with ordinary milk of lime to precipitate an oxychloride and then this oxychloride by introducing carbonic acid to transform into carbonate.

In this way, ammonia slag can also be converted into smeltable Bring it to the state by suspending it in water after grinding, this the Adds amount of lime that is necessary to remove the dissolved zinc chloride contained in the sludge and suspended To convert zinc chloride to calcium chloride and zinc hydroxide, and then introduces carbonated gases into the pulp. The filtered off and washed Soil body results in a high quality smeltable material.
