Bei vorliegender Dampfmaschinen-Construction ist das Bestreben mafsgebend gewesen, die Zahl der beweglichen Theile auf ein Minimum zu reduciren, so dafs Stopfbüchsen etc. ganz vermieden sind.In the present steam engine construction, the endeavor was decisive, the number to reduce the moving parts to a minimum, so that stuffing boxes, etc., are entirely avoided are.

A A sind zwei verhältnifsmäfsig kurze, in einer Axe liegende, mit dem Mitteltheil der Maschine, bezüglich dem Lager E, in. einem Stück gegossene, oder sonst wie mit einander verbundene Cylinder. Dieselben sind nach der Kurbel hin offen, so dafs der Dampf nur einseitig auf jeden der beiden Kolben B wirkt. Letztere sind durch ihre Stangen mit der Schleife C fest verbunden, innerhalb welcher sich der Krummzapfen /^-bewegt. Die Schieberbewegung wird durch den an der Gegenkurbel H befindlichen excentrischen Zapfen / hervorgebracht, welcher in einen Schlitz a des Schiebers hineinreicht. Hat dieser Schlitz eine einfache rechteckige Gestalt, wie in Fig. 6, so ist die Bewegung desselben die gewöhnliche; soll dem Schieber aber eine rasche Bewegung mit zwischenliegenden Stillstandspausen ertheilt werden, so kann die Schlitzform a, Fig. 5, angewendet werden. Die beiden Ausströmungsöffnungen c c münden, wie Fig. 4 zeigt, in einen Ringkanal d d, welcher die zwei Oeffnungen b h hat, um den ausströmenden Dampf nach Belieben nach unten oder oben ableiten zu können.
