Abstract

The damper is used to protect the WC elements, i.e. the lid and seat, from dropping on to the surface of the WC bowl in a free, uncontrolled and noisy manner. The damper consists of a bellows-like housing of flexible material which has an opening at the side, which enables the damper to change its shape under the influence of external forces. The damper is fastened to the WC elements with the aid of a strip of pressure-sensitive adhesive tape attached to its housing. The falling WC elements exert a pressure on the damper housing. The mechanical energy produced during the fall of the WC elements is used for the most part to overcome the air resistances which force their way through the small opening in the damper housing to the outside out of the interior of the damper being compressed and folded together. The falling speed of the WC elements is thus braked, so that they gently meet the WC bowl.
