Description of the disc bit

The disc bit (l) belongs to the area of manufacturing equestrian accessories - bit manufacturing.

As an equestrian journalist and master of horse management, the safety of horses and riders, but above all horse-friendly riding and the well-being of horses are particularly important to me. The disc bit (1) was designed with these aspects in mind. An unfortunately common experience, and one that is often even painful for riding horses, is the use of defective or poorly fitting bits. Lips and corners of the mouth get caught in the ends of worn-out bits and become sore. It is not uncommon for the corners of horses' mouths to tear as a result of this problem. Of course, horses can hardly be ridden properly under these conditions; not to mention that a rider who does not notice or even tolerates this bit defect is entering the area of animal cruelty, even if sometimes unintentionally.

The disc bit (1) is intended to help prevent unpleasant occurrences of this kind in the future. When used, it is no longer possible to pull the bit through the horse's sensitive mouth beyond what is bearable. The outer discs (2) and (2 ¹ ), which are about the same size (between 6 and 10 cm in diameter) as the previous snaffle rings, ensure that the bit always lies comfortably and quietly in the middle of the horse's mouth. Injuries caused by defective bits are no longer an issue. With a bit that lies quietly, rider aids are transmitted to the horse's mouth more precisely and gently. The horse does not feel any unpleasant, pinching pressure at the corners of its mouth, it feels comfortable and is more willing to be directed by the rider and is generally easier to ride. Retractive rider aids are carried out more smoothly. The transition from the actual bit part (3) and (3') to the disc (2) and (2') is rigid, but runs softly and smoothly to make it easier for the horse to accept the bit with a pleasant curve. The bit parts (3) and (3') are rigidly and firmly connected to the discs (2) and (2') (cast as one part). The disc bit (1) only becomes mobile and complete in the horse's mouth when there is a connecting piece (4) which is firmly but movably connected at both ends to the ends of the bit parts (3) and (3 ¹ ). Instead of one connecting piece (4), several connecting pieces can promote mobility and further reduce the intensity of the rein effect if the bit parts (3) and (3') are kept shorter to make room for several connecting pieces. It is also possible to connect just the two bit parts (3) and (3') firmly but flexibly - as with conventional, single-jointed snaffle bits. The cheek pieces (8) of the bridle are buckled into the eyelets (5) and (5'), which are firmly and rigidly attached to the uppermost points of the discs (2) and (2'). The reins (9) are buckled into the eyelets (6) and (6 ¹ ), which are also firmly and rigidly attached towards the rider's hand, but much lower on the edges of the discs (2) and (2'). To make the effect of the reins even more bearable for the horse's mouth, the pressure, which with conventional bits is usually only aimed at the horse's mouth, is further reduced by an additional noseband (10). The nose strap (10) runs from the eyelet (7) through a loop (11) attached to the usual nose strap (12) and is easily movable to the eyelet (T). The eyelets (7) and (7') are - like the other buckle eyelets - firmly and rigidly connected to the upper edge of the discs (2) and (2 ¹ ), also a little lower than the eyelets (5) and (5').

Figure 1 shows the side view of the disc denture (1).

The discs (2) and (2'), which take on the functions of conventional snaffle rings, are rigidly connected to the bit parts (3) and (3'). The bit parts (3) and (3') can be filed to different thicknesses and lengths, but always have a soft curve at the transition to the discs (2) and (2*) in order to ensure a comfortable position in the horse's mouth. The bit parts (3) and (3')

(3') extend from the centres of the inner surfaces of the discs (2) and (2') and form approximately a right angle to them.

The disc bit (1) is made mobile by a connecting piece (4) which is firmly but movably connected at both ends to the ends of the bit parts (3) and (3'). Instead of a connecting piece (4), several connecting links can be installed if space is created for this with shorter bit parts (3) and (3'). However, it is also conceivable that the ends of the bit parts (3) and (3') - as with the usual single-jointed snaffle bit - are firmly but freely movable connected to one another without a connecting link.

At the highest point of the discs (2) and (2') there are fixed and rigid buckle eyelets (5) and (5 ¹ ) for the attachment of bridle cheek pieces.

At the sides and further down - towards the rider's hand - the buckle eyelets (6) and (6') for the reins are firmly attached to the edges of the discs (2) and (2').

On the other side - towards the bridge of the horse's head - the buckle eyelets (7) and (7') for the nose strap are also firmly and rigidly attached to the edges of the discs (2) and (2'). In comparison to the buckle eyelets (6) and (6 ¹ ) for the reins, the buckle eyelets

(7) and (7') for the nose strap a little higher.

Description of Figure 2:

Figure 2 shows a slightly offset side view of the disc bit (1) with the bridle partially buckled.

The bit parts (3) and (3') extend smoothly, round and without any attachment points from the centres of the inner disc surfaces (2) and (2'). Both the inner disc surfaces (2) and (2') and the bit parts (3) and (3') are firmly and rigidly connected to one another and are cast in one piece. The necessary connection and mobility in the disc bit is provided by the connecting piece (4), which is firmly but freely movable connected at both ends to the ends of the bit parts (3) and (3 ¹ ).

The buckle eyelets (5) and (5') are attached to the highest points of the discs (2) and (2'), and are used to attach the bridle cheek pieces (8). If you draw a vertical line from the middle of the buckle eyelet (5) to the center of the disc and then use a horizontal line to form two right angles from the vertical in the center of the disc, you can see the angles (13) and (14) at which the buckle eyelet (6) for a rein (9) and the buckle eyelet (7) for the noseband (10) are also attached to the upper edge of the discs (2) and (2'), but on different sides. The eyelets (6) and (6') are each attached at an angle of approximately 50° (14) to the eyelets (5) and (5') in the direction of the rider's hand; the eyelets (7) and (7') to the other side towards the bridge of the horse's nose, but also on the edges of the discs (2) and (2'), at an angle of approximately 30° (13) to the eyelets (5) and (5').

Figure 3 shows a side view of a horse's head bridled with a disc bit.

The disc (2) with its soft inner curves fits snugly against the horse's mouth. Not only does it prevent the bit from being pulled through the horse's sensitive mouth, but injuries to the horse's mouth caused by the reins are almost impossible. One of the cheek pieces (8) of the bridle is buckled into the eyelet (5); one of the two reins (9) into the eyelet (6) and one end of the noseband (10), which runs freely through a hanging loop (11) of the noseband (12) to the right side of the disc bit, into the eyelet (7).

Claims (1)

The protection claim of the disc bit ( 1 ) is characterized in that the bit parts ( 3 ) and ( 3 ') run smoothly and seamlessly from the inner surface centers of the discs ( 2 ) and ( 2 '). Discs ( 2 ) and ( 2 ') and bit parts ( 3 ) and ( 3 ') each form a part cast in one piece. The ends of these two cast parts are firmly but freely movable connected to the ends of a connecting piece ( 4 ). Instead of one connecting piece ( 4 ), several can be installed. The buckle eyelets ( 5 ) and ( 5 ') for the bridle cheek pieces ( 8 ) are attached vertically to the highest points of the disc edges ( 2 ) and ( 2 '); the eyelets ( 6 ) and ( 6 ') for the reins ( 9 ) laterally underneath - towards the rider's hand - at an angle of approximately 50° to the eyelets ( 5 ) and ( 5 ') above, and the eyelets ( 7 ) and ( 7 ') for the nose strap ( 10 ) are on the other side - towards the bridge of the horse's nose - at an angle of approximately 30° to the eyelets ( 5 ) and ( 5 ') above, also rigidly attached vertically to the disc edges ( 2 ) and ( 2 '). The noseband ( 10 ), which is freely movable through a loop ( 11 ) attached to the noseband ( 12 ), is buckled and measured in such a way that it only exerts pressure on the bridge of the horse's nose when the reins ( 9 ) are clearly taken up and then reduces the bit pressure on the horse's mouth by distributing the pressure.
