Handle for screwdriver

The invention relates to a handle for screwdrivers with a blade, with a handle core made of hard plastic injected around the blade, with a casing of the handle core made of soft plastic, which partially encloses the handle core, whereby in particular at its hand-side end, also referred to as the handle cap, is not covered by soft plastic and in this area a transverse hole is formed in the handle.

In the case of handles of the type mentioned above, the cap serves to support the handle on the palm of the hand when using the screwdriver.

The purpose of covering the handle core with soft plastic is to give the handle a good grip and non-slip properties and to ensure good user comfort, as the soft plastic coating reduces the heavy strain on the palm of the hand when turning the tool.

A handle of this type is known, for example, from G 295 15 833.6. This handle is particularly characterized by the fact that the transverse hole is formed exclusively in the hard plastic of the handle core and that, starting from the handle cap, a short extension of the handle core runs in the direction of the blade-side end of the screwdriver and the transverse hole is formed in the area of this extension, while the rest of the handle surface is completely covered by soft plastic.

Handles of this type are usually printed with the manufacturer’s mark, dimensions and a barcode using the pad printing process. However, the soft plastics and printing inks used so far do not form a good bond, so that the print can be removed even with slight

mechanical stress causes it to detach from the substrate. Therefore, in order to create a good bond, the soft plastic must be subjected to a special activation treatment, which is expensive.

The task is to design a handle in such a way that, on the one hand, the advantages of good ease of use and good grip are retained, and, on the other hand, the costs of special activation of the soft plastic surface before the print is applied can be avoided. The handle should also be designed in such a way that its production can be easily implemented in terms of molding.

According to the innovation, this task is solved in such a way that starting from the handle cap on at least two sides of the handle, long tongue-shaped projections made of hard plastic run in the direction of the blade-side end of the handle and the cap and projections are not covered by soft plastic. These projections are formed in such a way that the handle core in this area is designed so that its surface forms part of the surface of the handle and the soft plastic casing connects to these tongues without any seams or joints.

The surface of these tongues made of hard plastic offers space for the application of a print that can be applied without complex activation and has good adhesion to this surface. As tests have shown, the grip and comfort of use are not significantly reduced by this design of the handle.

The screwdriver shown in Fig. 1 has the handle (1) with a handle core (2) made of hard plastic, for example polypropylene. The blade (3) is injected into the handle core and is permanently connected to it. The soft plastic casing (4) is firmly and permanently connected to the handle core (2). The long tongues (5) extend from the cap (6) and are not covered by a soft plastic casing.

The handle shown as an example has an almost rotationally ellipsoidal shape in the hand-side area over about 2/3 of its length. In this area, starting from the cap area and running lengthwise to the handle neck, six flattened areas (7) distributed over the circumference are formed. The principle of partial coating with soft plastic while leaving long tongue-shaped attachments free can of course also be applied to other handle shapes.
