Adsorptives SchichtelementAdsorptive layer element

The invention relates to a layer element for use in waste disposal sites, septic tanks, composting plants or garbage cans, for the adsorptive removal of separated odors and/or pollutants.

In landfills, it is common practice to cover individual layers of waste with soil to prevent harmful substances or odors from escaping. However, these layers of soil significantly limit the landfill's capacity to absorb waste.

Durch die Zunahme von Geruchs- und Schadstoffen unter der luft- bzw. gasundurchlässigen Folie ergibt sich das Problem, daß dasFurthermore, it is known to cover landfills with air- or gas-impermeable foils in order to at least achieve a reduction in odor nuisance or harmful gas emissions. Such air- or gas-impermeable foils swell up due to the gases produced in the respective landfill. The increase in odors and pollutants under the air- or gas-impermeable foil results in the problem that the

Covering the landfill is problematic. In addition, the gas mixture accumulated under the air- or gas-impermeable film can be explosive in extreme cases.

In order to prevent the odorous and/or harmful gases that arise in a landfill from escaping, a breathable film with membrane properties is also known. The odorous and/or harmful gases are condensed out as a result of a temperature difference between the inner and outer sides of the membrane film and pass through the landfill as contaminated condensate. This usually requires computer-controlled control of the landfill conditions, particularly the temperature and oxygen content. Furthermore, the landfill must have an impermeable base and ventilation channels. This represents a considerable effort.

In view of these circumstances, the invention is based on the object of creating a layered element of the type mentioned at the beginning that can be produced simply and inexpensively and that is permeable to gases and air and that adsorbs disturbing or dangerous odorous and harmful gases during passage through the layered element, whereby complex controls are unnecessary.

This object is achieved according to the invention by the features of claim 1. Preferred embodiments or further developments of the layer element according to the invention are characterized in the subclaims.

Es ist in vorteilhafter Weise mechanisch sehr stabil und folglichThe layer element according to the invention has an optimized permeability with excellent adsorber properties. It is advantageously very mechanically stable and therefore

problemlos handhabbar. The permeability prevents the accumulation of gases under the layer element and consequently an expansion of the layer element if it is intended, for example, to cover a waste disposal site. When passing through the layer element according to the invention, odors and pollutants are reliably adsorbed. The mechanical stability ensures good handling of the layer element according to the invention, especially when covering and uncovering a waste disposal site.

The layer element according to the invention can have a carrier made of a fleece, a thread layer, a woven fabric or a knitted fabric, which is combined with adsorbent particles. The adsorbent particles can be applied directly to the mechanically stable carrier. However, it is preferred if the carrier is connected to an open-pore foam to which the adsorbent particles are fixed by means of a conventional binder, preferably by means of a suitable adhesive. The said foam is firmly connected to the carrier. This can be done by lamination.

Supports made of a polyester fabric onto which an open-pore polyurethane foam is laminated have proven to be advantageous - particularly when the layered element is used in landfills. Such a layered structure ensures, on the one hand, a high level of strength for the layered element according to the invention and, on the other hand, the polyurethane foam increases the residence time of the gas mixtures passing through in the adsorptive layer and thus the adsorption efficiency.

Der auf das Polyester-Gelege aufkaschierteThe polyester fabric can have a mesh size of 1 to 5 threads/cm. The polyester fabric laminated onto the

Open-pored polyurethane foam advantageously has a pore count of 10 to 100 ppi, preferably 35 to 45 ppi (pores per inch). Ion exchangers, zeolites or preferably activated carbon in granular or powder form can be used as adsorbers. It is advantageous to use powdered activated carbon with a particle size of 10 to 100 μηη and a specific surface area of > 600 m 2 /g. The activated carbon can be impregnated with catalytically active or chemisorbtive substances.
