Mit 1 ist in Fig. 1 ein Schutzgitter zur Vermeidung von Treppenstürzen von Kleinkindern gekennzeichnet. Dieses Schutzgitter 1 weist ein an einer Wand 2 angeschraubtes, als Strebe des eigentlichen Gitters 3 ausgebildetes Drehgelenk 4 auf. Um den Drehpunkt des Drehgelenkes 4 kann das Gitter 3 horizontal aus dem Durchgang herausgeschwenkt und auch wieder hineingeschwenkt werden. Das Gitter besteht aus zwei Gitter-Teilen 5 und 6, die einander überlappend angeordnet sind. Die beiden Gitter-Teile 5 und 6 sind mit Hilfe einer Klemmeinrichtung 7 miteinander verbunden. Durch Öffnen der Klemmeinrichtung 7 können die beiden Gitter-Teile 5 und 6 gegeneinander verschoben werden, wodurch sich eine veränderliche Gesamtbreite des Gitters 3 ergibt. Am vom Drehgelenk 4 abgewandten Ende des Gitters 3 ist eine Verriegelungseinrichtung 8 angeordnet, gegen die das Gitter 3 im geschlossenen Zustand schlägt. Die Verriegelungseinrichtung 8 ist als vertikale Leiste ausgebildet, wobei an ihrer dem Gitter 3 abgewandten Seite zwei Querstreben 9 angebracht sind. Diese Querstreben 9 sind vorzugsweise jeweils mit einer Schraube befestigt. Dadurch daß mehrere Bohrungen 11 zur Aufnahme der Schraube 10 vorgesehen sind, kann mit der deswegen möglichen Höhenverstellung der Querstreben 9 die Verriegelungseinrichtung 8 bestens an die örtlichen Gegebenheiten, d.h. an ein Treppengeländer 12 angepaßt werden. Die Querstreben 9 liegen an zwei Streben 13 des Treppengeländers 12 an. Auf der den Querstreben 9 gegenüberliegenden Seite der Streben 13 ist jeweils einer Querstrebe 9 eine Leiste 14 zugeordnet, die mit der Querstrebe 9 verschraubt wird. Die Streben 13 des Treppengeländers 12 werden zwischen den Querstreben 9 und den zugeordneten Leisten 14 eingespannt. Die Verriegelungseinrichtung 8 wird somit am Treppengeländer 12 befestigt.In Fig. 1, 1 indicates a safety gate to prevent small children from falling down stairs.
