Covering film

The innovation concerns a covering film as used in agriculture to cover canopies, raised areas of earth or the like, in particular to cover asparagus canopies.

Such covering films are known which rest on the two inclined side walls of a bifang and have open pockets which, after the film has been placed on the bifang, are filled with sand on the spot. This serves as a weight and ensures that the film rests well on the bifang and prevents the wind from blowing the film away. The films are colored black so that the quality of the asparagus underneath the film is not impaired by the incidence of light. Since the pockets are open for easy filling with sand, the sand usually trickles out of the pockets when the film is removed from the bifang, so that the pockets have to be refilled or refilled the next time the film is placed on top. Furthermore, these open pockets fill with water when it rains, which leads to uneven weight distribution in the film. On hot days, this water evaporates, causing a weight loss in the film.

Handling such films involves considerable effort, as the bags have to be refilled again and again. The aim of the innovation is therefore to design a film of this type in such a way that the process of constantly refilling the bags is eliminated and particularly simple and practical handling is possible.

According to the innovation, it is proposed to form continuous, closed tubes at the lateral ends running in the longitudinal direction of the foil, which are formed by folding over the respective longitudinal end of the foil and welding the folded end to the foil, which are then filled with a weighting material, e.g. sand, from the front and/or from the back, and which, after filling with sand, are welded at the front and rear ends and at intervals in the tube shape transverse to the longitudinal axis.

This results in filled hoses or hose sections running lengthwise, which are filled with the weighting material, as the lower limit of the film. As the pockets, hose sections or chambers formed by the weld seams are completely closed due to the weld seams, the weighting material remains in the pockets, chambers or the like, so that refilling is not necessary and the film with the weighting device is ready for use at any time.

The tube-like structures that are created by welding the film lengthways at both ends of the film are welded shut after filling with the weighting material so that the weighting material is enclosed. Sand is particularly suitable as a weighting material, as it is readily available and inexpensive, but other loose or solid material (e.g. water, earth, stones, etc. or a continuous rope or similar) with a relatively high weight can also be used as a weighting material. The material should be loose or elastic so that the film can be rolled up and stowed away when not in use. To prevent the loose weighting material from slipping within the tube formed by welding the film strip, transverse weld seams are placed at intervals in the transverse direction of the longitudinal axis of the tube so that tube sections are created that are separate from one another. These hose sections can take the form of pockets, chambers or the like because the loose weight material deforms the cross-sectional shape of the hose.

The innovation is explained below in conjunction with the drawing using an example of implementation. It shows:

An earth mound or bifang 1 with an indicated asparagus 2 is covered by a film 3, namely by an upper, approximately horizontal section 4 and the two side sections 5 and 6. The lower end of the film 3 on the two sides 5 and 6 is formed by folding the film and welding it to the side surfaces 5 and 6 of the film into a tube shape 7, 8 which accommodates the weighting material 9. The tube-shaped structures 7, 8 are created by folding the free longitudinal ends of the film sections 5 and 6 upwards and welding them to the film sections by weld seams TO, 11.

This allows the weighting material 9 to be filled into the tubular structures 7, 8. The front and rear openings of these tubular structures 7 and 8 are then welded so that the weighting material 9 is enclosed. To prevent this weighting material 9 from sliding back and forth in the longitudinal direction of the tubular structure when the film is handled, transverse weld seams 15, 16 are placed across the longitudinal axis of the tubular arrangements, which divide the two longitudinal tubes into individual tube sections, pockets, chambers or the like 13, 14.

Claims (5)

Protection claims 1. Film for covering canopy beds or similar raised areas, in particular asparagus canopy beds, with weights on the sides, characterized in that the two ends of the film (3), which run parallel to the longitudinal axis (L) of the canopy (1) and rest on the side walls (5, 6) of the canopy, are longitudinally closed, tubular containers (7, 8) which are filled with weighting material (9). 2. Film according to claim 1, characterized in that the tubular containers (7, 8) consist of individual sections (13, 14) and are formed in that the two longitudinal ends of the film (3) are folded upwards and closed by longitudinal weld seams (10, 11), and that the continuous longitudinal containers (7, 8) thus formed are divided into individual containers (13, 14) arranged one behind the other in the longitudinal direction by transverse seams (15, 16) arranged at a distance from one another, preferably transverse weld seams. 3. Film according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the pocket-shaped individual containers (13, 14) are filled with sand or similar weighting material and are limited in the longitudinal direction by the transverse seams (15, 16). 4. Film according to claim 1, characterized in that the weighting material is sand, especially quartz sand. 5. Film according to claim 1, characterized in that the weighting material is designed in the form of balls, cylinders or similar weighting bodies which are separated from one another by the transverse weld seams (15, 16).
