Es ist bekannt, daß während einer Behandlung des stomatognathen Systems, wie beispielsweise einer Zahnbehandlung, die zu behandelnde Person üblicherweise in einer mehr oder weniger liegenden Position bei geöffnetem Mund behandelt wird. Insbesondere bei prophylaktischen Behandlungen, beispielsweise Entfernen von Zahnstein, Schleifen, Einsetzen von Kronen, Brücken und dergleichen, aber auch bei der konservierenden Zahnheilkunde, der prothetischen Zahnbehandlung sowie bei chirurgischen, implantologischen und parodontologischen Therapien, kommt es zur Entwicklung von Aerosolen, die aus Wasser mit Bohr- und Schleifstäuben und/oder Reinigungspasten und Pulvern und/oder Körperflüssigkeiten, wie z.B. Speichel und Blut, und/oder diversen Materialbruchstücken, wie z.B. Das erfindungsgemäße Schutzelement läßt sich über das Gesicht der zu behandelnden Person legen, wobei durch die wenigstens eine, im wesentlichen schlitzartige Öffnung der Mund für die durchzuführende Behandlung zugänglich ist. Gemäß einem vorteilhaften Vorschlag der Erfindung kann die Öffnung oval ausgebildet sein. Auch andere geeignete Formen, wie z. Mit besonderem Vorteil wird mit der Erfindung vorgeschlagen, daß das Schutzelement wenigstens im Bereich der Öffnung ein hautfreundliches Haftmittel aufweist. Durch diese Maßnahme ist es möglich, das Schutzelement rund um den Mund auf die Haut der zu behandelnden Person aufzukleben. Dadurch wird verhindert, daß sich Teile des Schutzelementes störend während der Behandlung vor oder in den Mundbereich bewegen können, andererseits wird das Schutzelement sicher und in der gewünschten Position über den abzudeckenden Gesicht gehalten. Das hautfreundliche Haftmittel kann die Öffnung umgebend auf wenigstens einer der Oberflächen des Schutzelementes aufgebracht sein. Gemäß einem weiteren vorteilhaften Vorschlag der Erfindung sind auf der gleichen Oberfläche des Schutzelementes weitere mit Haftmittel versehene Bereiche vorgesehen. Durch diese Maßnahme kann das Schutzelement auch an anderen Stellen eines Gesichtes zusätzlich fixiert werden, beispielsweise im Stirnbereich, so daß ein unerwünschtes Verschieben des Schutzelementes verhindert ist.It is particularly advantageous with the invention that the protective element has a skin-friendly adhesive at least in the area of the opening. Es werden die Abdeckungen 5 und 6 vor Beginn der Zahnbehandlung abgezogen und das Tuch 2 derart auf das Gesicht der zu behandelnden Person gelegt, daß der Kleberring 4 um den Mund herum auf das Gesicht aufgepreßt wird. Der Mund ist durch die Öffnung 3 zugänglich und das Tuch 2 in seiner Position gesichert. Die in Figur 1 nicht zu erkennende andere Oberfläche nimmt dann Spritzer, Nebel, Materialreste und dergleichen auf.
