Carrying handle attachment for a plastic container

The invention relates to a detachable carrying handle fastening on the side wall of a plastic container, which has a console that engages in a force-fitting manner in a projection recessed in the container side wall in a trough-like manner and to which a handle that can be pivoted against a stop is articulated.

Such a handle attachment for a container manufactured using the blow molding process is known, the bracket representing a flat disc is preheated and inserted into recesses in the mold wall of a blow mold and welded to the wall of the container when it is blown up. The latter is only possible with sufficient strength and the bracket used in the laborious process is still sufficiently warm. The connection achieved cannot be separated, so that if it is damaged in rough factory operation, the entire container must be discarded.

EP 0^13836 A1 describes a detachable handle attachment in which a mushroom-shaped projection is formed in the side wall of a plastic container during the blow molding process, over whose edge, which forms an undercut, the console of the swivel handle overlaps with a surrounding fold. To make this possible, the console is divided except for a narrow material bridge on its lower edge, so that it can be pushed over the mushroom-shaped projection and can only be held together by inserting the swivel handle into the bearing blocks of the console and its swivel shaft in a force-fitting manner over the mushroom-shaped projection. In another embodiment, the console can be pushed on by two such slots. Apart from the fact that this fastening requires several manual operations during assembly on the finished blow-molded container, the connection of the single or double-split bracket with the mushroom-shaped projection can be released by a side impact, which must be expected in the rough factory operation or during transport, but which must be avoided at all costs, especially with dangerous contents. In addition, the force exerted on the swivel handle during carrying only acts on the lower edge of the mushroom-shaped projection with the overlapping edge of the bracket.

The bracket, designed like a screw cap, grips the slightly thickening nut-shaped projection along its entire circumference when it is under load. Since the screw thread of the projection on its underside is located furthest inside the recess in the container wall, the main point of attack of the load-bearing force is also moved as far as possible into the container side wall. The releasable locking of the bracket enables it to be replaced in the event of damage and also ensures a non-rotatable, firm fit.

The arrangement of the screw projection 5 in the middle of the mold parting line 1 enables the thread 7 to be produced in a simple manner during the blow molding process. The thread 7 and the internal thread 8 of the bracket 9 are arranged in such a way that when the bracket 9 is in a force-locking position after it has been screwed on, the handle 12 lies horizontally in its main axis (Fig. 1).
