Transport coffin for multiple use

A wooden coffin is usually used for burials. The two halves of the coffin are usually screwed together and are made of veneered wood or solid real wood. Cemetery regulations require dense but decomposable material. The use of real wood and environmentally friendly varnishes is increasingly being certified by a stamp, seal or sticker on the coffin.

Environmentally friendly, combustible wooden coffins are used for cremation.

The disadvantage of this state of the art or this approach lies in the cost of a conventionally designed coffin.

The invention is therefore based on the task of finding a more economical and at least equally environmentally friendly solution without restricting the traditional piety.

The solution to the problem by the invention is characterized in that instead of the previously usual, expensive, disposable coffins, a cost-effective inner coffin (1) or a suitable body wrapping is used in combination with an outer transport coffin (2) that can be used multiple times. The inner coffin (1) or the body wrapping can be designed appropriately and consist of simple, degradable materials. The new, reusable transport coffin (2) accommodates the inner coffin (1) or the body wrapping and can be designed in various external shapes and colors. Using a suitable release mechanism (3), the inner coffin (1) or the body wrapping is separated from the transport coffin (3) after the official funeral ceremony in the still open grave or in the case of cremation in the crematorium and can be reused after cleaning.

The advantages of the invention are the cost savings for the bereaved and the local authorities, since the inner coffin (1) can be made from inexpensive materials in a simple design or can consist of just a thin body covering, such as foil made of flammable and degradable plastics or cardboard. By avoiding the veneer coatings and varnishes used in conventional coffins, the degradation process is more environmentally friendly. This could also be used to shorten the time it takes to level graves. Another advantage of the invention is that the new type of outer transport coffin is reusable. This means that this transport coffin (3) can be luxuriously designed in a wide variety of shapes and colors, so that even those with limited financial means can have a visually pleasing and dignified burial.

In the case of burials at sea, the transport coffin (3) offers the possibility of handing over the body to the sea in a dignified manner without an inner coffin.

The transport coffin (3) can also be used as a decorative covering for the conventional zinc coffins used by funeral homes.

In Fig. 1, reference number 1 designates an inner coffin, the lower half of which is also designed as a base plate. The transport coffin 2, shown here in a rectangular shape, is unscrewed from the base plate by the release mechanism 3.

In Fig. 2, reference number 1 designates an inner coffin which is enclosed by the transport coffin 2 according to the invention. The articulated side walls hold the inner coffin securely in the locked position during transport and placement in the grave and release the inner coffin again by activating the release mechanism 3.

In Fig. 3, the reference number 1 designates an inner coffin in a simple design as a cardboard box, which is enclosed by the transport coffin 2. The release mechanism 3 is housed in optically designed columns. The reference number 4 designates a separate floor frame that remains in the grave in the event of burial.

Use of coffins or body wrappings for burial, cremation or burial at sea, characterized in that instead of a conventional single coffin, a simple inner coffin (1) or a body wrap in combination with a transport coffin (2) is enclosed or covered, which can be separated and reused by a suitable release mechanism (3). 2. Coffins according to at least one of claims 1 to 6, characterized in that the inner coffin (1) or the body wrapping is made of simple, environmentally friendly, degradable material, such as untreated solid wood, and, as far as official regulations allow, of substitute materials such as chipboard, cardboard, waste paper or plastic film.
