The invention relates to a container that can be attached to the outside, preferably to the rear of a motor vehicle, in particular to the vertical rear wall of an off-road motor vehicle, for holding equipment that can be used in an emergency, such as first aid items such as bandages, AIDS gloves, cutting knives for seat belts, emergency hammers, etc., according to claim 1.

Although a variety of containers have been proposed for mounting on the rear of a motor vehicle, these containers were primarily used to hold a spare wheel.

In vehicles with a low rear wall, i.e. with a relatively low lower edge of the rear window, the spare wheel can only be mounted at the rear of the vehicle if this impairs the view to the rear.

The object of the invention is to optimally use the space freed up by moving the spare wheel from the rear area of the motor vehicle in order to increase traffic safety and maneuverability.

This object is achieved by the container according to claim 1.

According to the invention, a container for the spare wheel is replaced by a container for equipment that can be used in an emergency, preferably a first aid box. In the event of an accident or breakdown, the container is immediately visible to all road users in an optimally accessible location.

It is placed in a safe place and can be used immediately, especially if the container has a corresponding label on the outside and is therefore immediately recognizable as an emergency aid box or first aid kit. This advantage is all the more important because in the event of an accident, not only the people directly involved in the accident but also those providing assistance are often exposed to shock, which makes searching for and finding first aid material or breakdown assistance material very difficult.

Advantageous embodiments of the container are the subject of the subclaims.

The further development according to claim 2 results in a very simple structure in which only a few components are required. Due to the detachable attachment of the outer shell half, the equipment that can be used in an emergency, such as the first aid kit, can be removed from the vehicle together with the shell half and brought to a location that is outside the danger area.

The development of claim 4 further simplifies the removal of the outer shell half, whereby it is advantageous for these designs if the shell halves consist at least in part of plastic.

With the development of claim 7, it is possible to attach the container with a predetermined, large internal volume to the rear of motor vehicles with a low lower edge of the rear window without unduly impairing visibility. For this purpose, an opening is provided in the upper area of the shell halves.

The panel that at least partially covers the opening can be used advantageously for the integration of a driving aid for monitoring the rear area of the vehicle according to the development of claim 8.

For this purpose, a mirror can be integrated into the container, which then rests against the inner wall of the panel and deflects the essentially horizontal light rays coming from the interior of the vehicle in such a way that the rear area of the vehicle and thus the bumper or any parts protruding from it, such as the trailer coupling head, are captured. The mirror can be designed in different ways, for example as a panoramic mirror, i.e. as a mirror with a convex surface. However, it is equally possible to design the mirror as a facet mirror or to tilt the mirror accordingly so that even when arranged off-center, the bumper area and in particular the area of the bumper in the center remains visible.

The development of claim 10 ensures that the mirror is not constantly exposed to splash water or dust and other environmental influences. It is conceivable, for example, to assign a drive to the mirror that is activated when the motor vehicle is switched off in order to swivel the mirror into an inactive position in which the reflective surface is protected.

Here it is advantageous to proceed according to claim 11 and to use the inner wall of the upper boundary of the container.

The invention further relates to a mirror for mounting on the outside, in particular on the rear of a motor vehicle, with which the rear area and in particular areas of the rear that protrude from the bumper can be easily kept in view when the vehicle is being pushed back. This invention is the subject of claim 16 with the further developments in subclaims 17 and 19.

Figure 1 shows the rear of an off-road vehicle, in which the lower edge of a rear window 12 is relatively low. In other words, the height H of the rear tail wall 14 is relatively low. In this motor vehicle, the spare wheel is not attached to the rear. Instead, the rear carries a first aid box designated 16, which is made up of two shell halves.

In Figure 1, only the outer shell half 18 is shown, which is removed in the illustration according to Figure 2. In Figure 2, the base shell half 20 attached to the motor vehicle or to the rear wall 14 is shown.

From the illustration in Figure 2 it can be seen that a circumferential seal 22 is accommodated in the base shell half 20, with a corresponding groove or fold being formed in the base shell half for this purpose.

The illustration according to Figure 2 also shows that the surface of the essentially flat base shell half facing away from the motor vehicle has a warning triangle printed on it, so that the first aid box fulfills a multiple function.

The illustration in Figures 1 and 2 also shows that the first aid box is trapezoidally tapered in the upper area and protrudes in this area over the lower edge 26 of the rear window 12. In this area, the first aid box is equipped with an opening 2 4, the function of which will be explained in more detail below in the other variants:

Figure 3 shows the perspective view of a slightly modified variant with the shell halves 118 and 120. In this embodiment, those components that are comparable to the components of the embodiment according to Figures 1 and 2 are designated with reference numerals that are increased by the number "100".

The opening is marked with 124. In contrast to the design according to Figures 1 and 2, an additional brake light 130 is integrated into the base shell half on the top. It can also be seen from the illustration according to Figure 3 that the outer shell half 118 is attached to the base shell half 120 in a hinge-like manner. For this purpose, two claw-like hinge projections 134 are formed or attached to the lower shell wall 132, which runs essentially horizontally, and which fit into corresponding slots (not shown in detail) in the base shell half.

120. The outer shell half 118 can thus be folded away from the base shell half 120 due to the hinge formed thereby and can even be removed when folded away. The illustration according to Figure 3 shows the hinge, but this is only possible if the outer shell half is designed to be transparent.

The shell halves can be locked together when fully attached, i.e. when the box is closed, which is indicated by the lock 138.

Figure 4 shows a schematic side view of the design of the first aid box according to Figure 3 in a slightly modified design with regard to the arrangement of the lock designated 238. In this embodiment, those parts and components of the box that correspond to the components of the embodiments described above are again designated with corresponding reference numerals that are increased by the number 100 or 200.

The attachment of the base shell half 220 to the rear wall 214 of the motor vehicle can be seen. The rear window is designated with 212. Also indicated is the first aid bag 240 accommodated in the outer shell half 218.

The lock 238 is seated in a recess 242 which aligns with a projection 244 on the side of the base shell half 220 when the outer shell half assumes the locked state. The lock 238 is preferably designed as a lock that can be released by pressing a push button in order to make opening as easy as possible.

The rear wall of the outer shell half 218 is designated with 246. This rear wall runs essentially parallel to the rear wall 214 of the motor vehicle. The upper area of the outer shell half is designed in such a way that a panel 250 (150 according to Figure 3) is connected to the upper wall 248 (148 according to Figure 3), which is inclined at an angle of approximately 45° to the rear.

runs. The cover thus covers the opening 224 (124 according to Figure 3) to the rear. In addition, the cover 250 (150 according to Figure 3) protrudes at least in some areas - according to Figure 4 and Figure 3 completely - from the rear wall 246 (146 according to Figure 3) of the outer shell half 218 or 118. The reason for this arrangement is as follows:

The panel 250 has a mirror 252 on the inside, which in the position shown in Figure 4 assumes a functional position in which it provides driving assistance or seating assistance when reversing the motor vehicle. The mirror 252 rests on the panel 250 so that, like the panel, it is inclined at about 45° to the vertical. Because the panel and thus the mirror are in a position that is not shielded by the rear wall 246 of the box, the lines of sight 254 shown with a dot-dash line can reach the rear area of the vehicle and thus the area of the bumper 256 or the coupling head 258 of a trailer coupling by reflecting on the mirror 252. In other words, when the driver reverses the vehicle, he can look through the opening 242 into the first aid box and can constantly see the coupling head 258 of the trailer coupling due to the reflection of the visual rays on the mirror 252. In order to be able to monitor the entire area of the rear, even if the first aid box is arranged off-center - as shown in Figure 1 - it is advantageous to design the mirror as a panoramic mirror or as a faceted mirror.

As shown in Figure 3, the cover 150 is integrally formed on the outer shell half, i.e. it merges into the wall 248. The cover 150 continues laterally in triangular aprons 160, which merge into the side walls 162 of the outer shell half 118. In this way, a first splash guard or protection against dirt on the mirror 252 is already provided.

In order to protect the mirror even more reliably from dirt, it is advantageous to provide the mirror with a drive that brings the mirror into an inactive rest position IS when not in use, for example after the vehicle has been parked, which is shown in dash-dotted lines in Figure 4. The mirror 252 is here pivoted clockwise by approximately 135° so that the reflective surface rests on the inside of the upper wall 248. The seal of the embodiment according to Figure 4 is designated 222.

Finally, a third embodiment is shown and described with reference to Figures 5 to 10, whereby here too, for the components that correspond to the components of the embodiments described above, corresponding reference numerals are used, which are increased by the number 100, 200 or 300.

The variant essentially corresponds to the design of the first aid box according to Figure 3. One can see in particular from the illustration according to Figure 7 the arrangement of the mirror 352, which rests on the inner wall of the panel 350.

The lock 338 is again equipped with a handle, whereby, in contrast to the design shown, a handle can be provided to make opening the box easier. An additional brake light 230 is again integrated into the base shell half 320.

From the illustration in Figure 9 it can be seen that the opening 324 is covered by the aperture 350 and thus by the mirror 352.

From the above description it also follows that the base shell half 120, 220, or 320 is not only trapezoidally tapered in the upper section,

but at an angle - as best seen in Figure 8. The angle of the bend is designated with the Greek word φ. This design makes it possible to open the tailgate with the rear window without having to remove the base half of the shell first.

Of course, deviations from the previously described embodiments are possible without departing from the basic idea of the invention. The box can also be made from several shell parts and put together accordingly. Furthermore, it is not absolutely necessary to make the box exclusively from plastic materials. Composite materials and metallic materials are also conceivable. In the event that the box is made of plastic, it is advantageous to work with stiffening ribs, which have the additional advantage that the rear of the vehicle is structured accordingly.

Of course, other locking mechanisms between the individual shell parts are also conceivable, such as a snap lock.

It is an advantage if the first aid box or the emergency box is clearly labelled as such from a distance.

Instead of a panoramic mirror, it is also possible to adjust the mirror with a suitable adjustment device so that the center of the vehicle, where the protruding ball head of the trailer hitch is located, can be monitored by different drivers from different positions. The adjustment is preferably carried out in two planes.

It has been shown that the lighting from the rear lights is sufficient to ensure visibility of the trailer coupling in any driving situation. However,

It is also conceivable to work with additional lighting devices.

Claims (19)

Expectations 1. A container that can be attached to the outside, preferably to the rear of a motor vehicle, in particular to the vertical rear wall of an off-road motor vehicle, for holding equipment that can be used in an emergency, in particular in the form of a first aid box (16; 116; 216; 316), in which an equipment set, in particular a breakdown assistance or first aid set (240) is held inside a shell that is made up of at least two shell parts (18, 20; 118, 120; 218, 220; 318, 320), preferably two shell halves, and is sealed to the outside. 2. Container according to claim 1, characterized in that a first base shell half (20; 120; 220; 320) is attached to the motor vehicle and the other, outer shell half (18; 118; 218; 318) can be opened, preferably detachably connected to the base shell half (20; 120; 220; 320), preferably lockable. 3. Container according to claim 2, characterized in that the outer shell half (18; 118; 218; 318) can be suspended in the base shell half (20; 120; 220; 320). 4.
