Das Universal-Besteck hat den Zweck, eine grofse Anzahl Gegenstände des täglichen Bedarfs aufzunehmen, damit man dieselben ohne umfangreiche Transport-Utensilien in bequemer Weise bei sich führen kann. In dem durch diese Quertheilungen gebildeten kleinen Raum findet ein Compafs (No. 34) Aufnahme, in Fig. 48 in Seitenansicht, in Fig. 49 in Frontansicht dargestellt, während durch das Hebeband zur Linken der Bürstentheil einer Zahnbürste (No. 7), durch das Hebeband zur Rechten zwei Metallkapseln gehoben werden, die übereinander geschoben sind. Der Halt des letzteren wird wesentlich durch die rechtwinklig zum Deckel nach innen umgebogene Platte χ bedingt, welche Platte äufserdem noch den Zweck hat, bei zugeklapptem Deckel sich zwischen Gabel und Verbandtuch zu schieben, um erstere gegen Rostflecke bei feucht eingelegtem Verbandtuch (von dem weiter unten die Rede sein wird) zu schützen.
