Der bisherige DeIpIac e'sehe Apparat zur Concentration der Schwefelsäure besteht in einem niedrigen, mit einer Haube versehenen Platinakessel, bei welchem die der zu concentrirenden Säure entsteigenden Dämpfe in der Haube condensirt und dann wieder in die Bleikammern zurückgeleitet wurden. Diese Construction hatte den Nachtheil, dafs mit dem Destillat auch sämmtliches abgedampfte Wasser nach den Bleikammern oder den Bleipfannen zurückgeführt wurde, um dort von neuem theils abgedampft, theils wieder nach dem Platinakessel zurückgeführt zu werden. Der neue Apparat beseitigt diesen Mifsstand durch Theilung des Destillats nach Mafsgabe des Durchganges der zu concentrirenden Säure durch den Apparat, derart, dafs an der dem Einflufs zunächst liegenden Stelle, woselbst nur Wasser abdestillirt wird, dieses gesondert aufgefangen und abgeleitet wird, an einer weiteren Stelle das übergehende, sehr schwache Schwefelsäurehydrat aufgefangen und nach den Bleikammern oder den Bleipfannen zurückläuft, während an weiteren Stellen, woselbst bereits sehr hochgradiges Schwefelsäurehydrat übergeht, dieses unmittelbar nach dem Eingänge des Apparates zurückgeleitet und, mit der vorconcentrirten Kammersäure vermischt, durch den Apparat geführt wird. Auf diese Weise läfst sich bei continuirlichem Betriebe mit Hülfe eines einzigen Kessels eine höchst concentrate Schwefelsäure von bis 98 pCt.
