Abstract

The two rear wheels are mounted at the ends of trailing arms pivoted in transverse bearings on the chassis. The trailing arms are joined by a cross bar such as a stabiliser. In order to accommodate tolerances in the cross bar, and to allow some relative lateral movement of the trailing arms, one end of the cross bar is mounted inside a long sleeve fitted to that trailing arm. The sleeve bearing contains locating bearings for the cross bar to allow some axial movement as well as radial springing, this being achieved by resilient bushings clamped between rigid side plates.
