Mute for a drum or similar percussion instrument and drum

The innovation relates to a mute according to the generic term of claim 1 and to a drum or similar percussion instrument with such a mute according to the generic term of claim 9.

The aim of the innovation is to demonstrate a damper that is particularly suitable for a drum, but also for other related percussion instruments with skin, and that can be easily attached to and removed from the respective percussion instrument at low cost.

To solve this problem, a damper is designed according to claim 1. A drum or similar percussion instrument is designed according to claim 9.

Further developments of the innovation are the subject of the subclaims. The innovation is explained in more detail below using the figures for an exemplary embodiment. They show:

In the figures, 1 is a drum which, in a known manner, consists of a circular-cylindrical drum body 2, on which a drum skin 3 is provided on both sides, and is tensioned in the usual way using a tensioning device 4 provided on the respective open end of the drum body 2. Each tensioning device 4 consists of several fittings 5 distributed around the drum axis and fastened to the outer surface of the drum body, of a tensioning hoop 6 which holds the drum body

encloses and rests against a skin ring 7 of the drum skin 2, which also encloses the drum body 2 and is connected to the drum skin 3 guided over the edge of the drum body 2 at its circumference, as well as several tension screws 8. These engage with an external thread in an internal thread of a fitting 5, are guided through openings in the tension hoop 6 and rest with their head against the side of the tension hoop facing away from the skin hoop 7.

A damper 9 is provided on the upper drum skin 3 in Figure 1. This essentially consists of an elongated or band-shaped, permanently elastic holding element 10, which is provided at each of its two ends with a connecting or fastening piece 11, for example with an eyelet or a hook, and with these connecting pieces can be suspended in the tensioned state from two tensioning screws 8 which are diametrically opposite one another on the circumference of the drum body 2 and protrude above the plane of the drum skin 3, in such a way that the tensioned holding element 10 runs parallel to, but at a distance from, the likewise tensioned drum skin 3.

A damping body 12 made of a damping, elastic material, for example foam, is arranged on the holding element 10, in the embodiment shown in that this, for example, cuboid or cube-shaped damping body 12 has a groove 13 on its top side 12.1 in Figure 1 that is open towards this side and in which the holding element 10 is accommodated. The dimensions of the damping body 12 and the depth of the groove 13 are selected such that the damping body 12 attached to the holding element with its groove 13 rests resiliently against the eardrum 3 with the bottom side 12.2 facing away from the top side 12.1 through the elastically tensioned holding element 10. For this purpose, the distance between the bottom of the groove 13 and the bottom side 12.2 is slightly larger than the distance between the eardrum and the holding element 10.

The damping body 12 can be easily removed at any time by pivoting it around the holding element 10 and then pulling it off this holding element. Furthermore, the damping body 12 can be moved along the holding element 10 to achieve different damping effects, as indicated in Figure 1 with the double arrow A.

A suitable holding element 10 is, for example, an elastic band containing fibers made of rubber or a rubber-like material, such as is used for expanders in the sporting goods sector.

The innovation has been described above using an exemplary embodiment. It is understood that numerous changes and modifications are possible without thereby departing from the inventive concept underlying the innovation.

Claims (16)

1. Damper for a drum or similar percussion instrument with a skin stretched by a tensioning device ( 4 ) on an instrument body ( 2 ), characterized
by a band-like, elastically tensionable holding element ( 10 ),
by means for the tensioned fastening of the holding element ( 10 ) to opposite regions of the instrument body ( 2 ) on the instrument circumference, and
by at least one damping body ( 12 ) provided on the holding element ( 10 ) for contact against the skin ( 3 ). 2. Percussion instrument according to claim 1, characterized in that the means for tensionally fastening the holding element ( 10 ) are formed by connecting pieces ( 11 ) at ends of the holding element ( 10 ), for example by eyelets or hooks. 3. Damper according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the means for fastening are formed in that the holding element ( 10 ) forms at least one loop. 4. Damper according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the holding element can be fastened to clamping elements ( 8 ) of a clamping device ( 4 ) for the skin ( 3 ) of the percussion instrument. 5. Damper according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the holding element ( 10 ) is a monofilament or multifilament band made of a rubber-elastic material. 6. Damper according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the damping body ( 12 ) forms a surface ( 12.2 ) for flat contact against the eardrum ( 3 ). 7. Damper according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the damping body ( 12 ) has at least one opening or groove ( 13 ) for receiving the holding element ( 10 ). 8. Damper according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the damping body ( 12 ) is adjustable along the holding element ( 10 ). 9. Drum or similar percussion instrument with a skin ( 3 ) stretched by a tensioning device ( 4 ) on an instrument body ( 2 ) and a damper for the skin ( 3 ), characterized
by a band-like, elastically tensionable holding element ( 10 ),
by means for the tensioned fastening of the holding element ( 10 ) to opposite regions of the instrument body ( 2 ) on the instrument circumference, and
by at least one damping body ( 12 ) provided on the holding element ( 10 ) which rests against the skin ( 3 ). 10. Drum or similar percussion instrument according to claim 9, characterized in that the means for tensioned fastening of the holding element ( 10 ) are formed by connecting pieces ( 11 ) at ends of the holding element ( 10 ), for example by eyelets or hooks. 11. Drum or similar percussion instrument according to claim 9 or 10, characterized in that the means for fastening are formed in that the holding element ( 10 ) forms at least one loop. 12. Drum or similar percussion instrument according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the holding element can be fastened to clamping elements ( 8 ) of a clamping device ( 4 ) for the skin ( 3 ) of the percussion instrument. 13. Drum or similar percussion instrument according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the holding element ( 10 ) is a monofilament or multifilament band made of a rubber-elastic material. 14. Drum or similar percussion instrument according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the damping body ( 12 ) forms a surface ( 12.2 ) for flat contact against the eardrum ( 3 ). 15. Drum or similar percussion instrument according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the damping body ( 12 ) has at least one opening or groove ( 13 ) for receiving the holding element ( 10 ). 16. Drum or similar percussion instrument according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the damping body ( 12 ) is adjustable along the holding element ( 10 ).
