Abstract

The siphon (U) has a variable-position discharge pipe. The unit has an enclosed housing (1) with an inlet (2) positioned over an outlet (3, 3'). The housing encloses a canal labyrinth which holds a liquid forming an odour barrier. During the in-flow of a large quantity of fluid, the barrier triggers suction discharge. The lower part of the housing (1) has esp. two apertures pointing in different directions. One of the apertures is presented to the discharge tube as selected. The other outlet serves as a maintenance/cleaning aperture in conjunction with the cap (5).

Description

Self-triggering urinal suction siphon with selectable orientation of the drainage connection

The invention relates to a self-triggering urinal suction siphon in which the direction of the connection to the drainage channel is selectable.

Suction siphons of the type mentioned are known from the state of the art. For example, the German utility model DE-295 22 334 Ul describes a urinal siphon which has a plastic housing which has an inlet opening for connecting the urinal and an outlet opening for connecting to the drain channel, as well as an odor barrier located inside the housing which interacts with the urinal bowl according to the principle of connected vessels and which triggers a self-suction effect when a certain large amount of liquid flows into the urinal, i.e. during each flushing process. An outlet nozzle for connecting to the drain channel is also pivotally connected to the outlet opening in such a way that it can be adjusted from an approximately vertically downward position to an approximately horizontal position, which makes it possible to adapt the outlet nozzle of the urinal to the existing different positions of the drain channels built into the wall.

In order to ensure this pivotability, the outlet nozzle is designed as a double knee, the two knee parts of which are connected to each other in a rotatable manner.

This well-known solution has the following disadvantages: The double knee connection takes up a relatively large amount of space, which often leads to space problems during installation.

In addition, the drainage through the double elbow is unfavourable in terms of flow and leads to increased deposits within the drain connection in the long term. Finally, access to the interior of the siphon, for example to remove blockages caused by foreign bodies, is difficult.

The invention is therefore based on the object of creating a self-triggering urinal suction siphon with selectable orientation of the drainage closure, which takes up less space, has an improved flow pattern in the drain nozzle, and at the same time makes it possible to open the suction siphon without any problem and to easily remove foreign bodies that have penetrated into the interior of the siphon.

The problem is solved by means of the characterizing features of claim 1.

Advantageous embodiments of the invention form the features of subclaims 2 to 6.

The invention will be explained in more detail below using an embodiment with reference to Figures 1, 2a, 2b and 2c as well as 3a and 3b.

Fig. 1 shows the suction siphon according to the invention with a drain nozzle that can be connected in a horizontal and a vertical direction as well as an inspection opening closure in a perspective exploded view;

Fig. 2a shows the suction siphon according to the invention with connected vertical drain nozzle in front view;

Fig. 2b is a sectional view of the suction siphon according to the invention shown in Fig. 2a, as it results along the section line H-II;

Fig. 2c shows the suction siphon according to the invention shown in Figures 2a and 2b in a rear view;

Figures 3a and 3b show the suction siphon according to the invention in a front view and in a sectional view as it results along the section line &Igr;&Pgr;-&Pgr;&Igr;, wherein in these views the horizontal variant of the drain nozzle is connected to the rear of the siphon and the front drainage opening is closed as an inspection opening with a detachable cover.

The invention will now be explained in more detail using a preferred embodiment with reference to Figures 1, 2a, 2b, 2c, 3a and 3b.

Figure 1 shows a self-triggering urinal suction siphon U according to the invention in a perspective exploded view.

The closed housing 1 comprises an inlet opening 2 for connecting a urinal as well as a drainage opening 3, 3' provided in the lower area of the housing 1 below the inlet opening 2 in the front and rear walls V, R.

The inlet opening 2 and the outlet openings 3, 3' are connected inside the housing 1 by a channel labyrinth K, which can be seen in Figures 2b and 2c but is not described in detail here and is known in principle. This forms an odor barrier and also triggers a suction effect when larger quantities of liquid are introduced. A fastening eyelet B can also be seen on the housing 1, with which the siphon can be fixed for installation.

The inlet opening is provided in the usual way with a known radial rib profile seal, into which the drain connection of the urinal only needs to be inserted.

The discharge openings 3, 3' arranged on the lower front and rear of the housing 1 point with their connection axis C horizontally to the front or rear, and depending on requirements either a discharge nozzle 4 leading forwards and downwards can be connected in the discharge opening 3 or a discharge nozzle 4' leading horizontally to the rear can be connected in the discharge opening 3'.

The discharge nozzle 4' which leads horizontally to the rear has a straight axis A', while the discharge nozzle 4 which leads downwards to the front has an axis A which is angled downwards by 90°. The discharge opening 3 or 3 ¹ , which in the special case, depending on the position of the discharge channel, is not used to connect a discharge pipe 4 or 4 ¹ , can be used as an inspection opening and is closed by a cover 5.

The drainage openings 3, 3', the drainage nozzles 4, 4' and the cover 5 shown in all figures in the exemplary embodiment are provided with bayonet connections, i.e. ring segments protruding in the radial direction are arranged both inside the drainage openings 3, 3' and on the front sides of the drainage nozzles 4, 4' and on the front side of the cover 5 and can be mated with one another. By additionally providing an O-ring 8 in the sealing area of the connected parts, the drainage openings are connected to the respective connection nozzle 4 or 4' and the cover 5 in a simple and effective manner, tightly and firmly but detachably at any time. As shown in Figures 1, 2a and 3a, there are instructions on the housing that show the installer how the parts are connected to one another or can be detached from one another.

The siphon according to the invention enables the installer to adapt the drainage connection to the existing conditions on site when installing the siphon. The siphon according to the invention has the advantage over the known siphon with selectable orientation of the drainage connection that it takes up less space and therefore no space problems arise during installation. In addition, the flow path in the drainage connection is much more straightforward, so that less deposits can be expected within the drainage connection in the long term.

Finally, by loosening the cover 5, it is very easy to gain access to the interior of the housing 1 of the siphon in order to be able to easily remove blockages in the siphon caused, for example, by foreign bodies.

The illustrated embodiment does not represent a limitation of the subject matter of the invention in any way. For example, instead of the described bayonet connection between the discharge openings and the connection pieces or the cover, any other suitable connection can be used.

Claims (6)

1. Self-triggering urinal suction siphon (U) with selectable orientation of the drainage connection, comprising a closed housing ( 1 ) with an inlet opening ( 2 ) and a drain opening ( 3 , 3 ') arranged below the inlet opening ( 2 ), as well as a channel labyrinth (K) located inside the housing, which forms an odor barrier with the incoming liquid and triggers a suction effect when a larger quantity of liquid flows in, characterized in that two openings pointing in different drainage directions are provided in the lower region of the housing ( 1 ), one of which can be selected as a drainage opening ( 3 , 3 ') for connecting a drainage nozzle ( 4 , 4 '), and the other serves as an inspection opening that can be closed with a cover ( 5 ). 2. Self-triggering urinal suction siphon according to claim 1, characterized in that the drainage openings ( 3 , 3 ') are introduced into the front and rear walls ( 6 , 7 ) of the housing ( 1 ) and point horizontally to the front and rear with their connection axis (C). 3. Self-triggering urinal suction siphon according to claim 1 and/or 2, characterized in that the drainage nozzle ( 4 ') connectable to the rear has a straight axis (A') and the drainage nozzle ( 4 ) connectable to the front has an axis (A) angled downwards by 90°. 4. Self-triggering urinal suction siphon according to one or more of the preceding claims, characterized in that the connections between the openings ( 3 , 3 ') and the discharge nozzles ( 4 , 4 ') or the cover ( 5 ) are designed as snap-in connections. 5. Self-triggering urinal suction siphon according to claim 4, characterized in that the locking connections are designed as bayonet connections. 6. Self-triggering urinal suction siphon according to claim 4 and/or 5, characterized in that the connection between the openings ( 3 , 3 ') and the discharge nozzles ( 4 , 4 ') or the cover ( 5 ) is sealed with an O-ring ( 8 ).
