Print medium

The invention relates to an automatic ordering, order and navigation system, in particular the electronic, contact-free processing of orders between a customer and the seller of products, information and services. Furthermore, the print medium according to the invention enables contact-free communication between so-called print media (catalogues, books, magazines, CDs, etc.) and a mobile reader, which is preferably a Sandy. The customer can then use this mobile phone to read a product from the print medium (e.g. catalog) into the mobile phone, search for this product in the department store using a navigation system and at the same time process cashless payments. Another combinable solution according to the invention is copy protection, particularly for CD and DVD systems.

A wide variety of systems of electronic, contactless data reading and input systems are known from the granted patents. Among others, in US Patent No. 4,415,065 by Sandstedt, optical barcode reading devices are known which are attached to a portable microprocessor in order to enable rapid entry of orders and orders in a department store.

Mobile phones with a barcode reader for reading barcodes are also known from the utility model no.: DE 200,09,500 Ul by Geerlings. These mobile phones allow the barcodes to be read and the data read to be transmitted to a so-called network operator. This network operator then carries out the user's instructions by executing the instructions or orders read from the barcode. Another automatic ordering and payment system is known from the European EP 0446500B1 (DE 690.33.053 T2) by Visa International. This patent describes an automatic order and payment system that allows a consumer to place orders for goods and services by using an order computer station that works together with identification codes and voice commands that specifically handle companies and products or services whose codes appear in advertising media.

The known system allows orders for products and services to be processed quickly without the consumer having to go to a location where such products or services are offered. This known invention consists of widely distributed order computer stations (OCT) and a central computer system (CCS) that processes the orders and the associated credit information sent from the OCTs to the CCs. This patent also describes the reading of data from, for example, brochures using barcode systems. Furthermore, a paper with an integrated circuit is already known from DE 19601358 C2 of the Fraunhofer Society. This invention describes an electronic paper that includes a particularly simple integrated circuit that tolerates printing treatment of the paper and can be interrogated without contact. This circuit can be used for numerous applications, in particular identification and authorization systems.

The known systems shown have the disadvantage that the so-called print media (brochures, catalogs, etc.) printed with barcodes enable optical reading of coded information, but do not enable the possibility of contact-free communication (data output and data input) via a mobile device with navigation function.

This problem is also not solved by the papers with integrated circuits known from DE 19601358 C2. This system is merely a means to the end of the inventive solution to the problem of creating a complex system for communication between a print medium (catalog, magazine, brochure, CD, DVD, book...) of the user and the service provider, which is able, for example, to take orders, send and store information in the print medium via a mobile device, find ordered goods more quickly in department stores, for example, and enable cashless payment transactions.

The known copy protection systems for disc-shaped information carriers as described in DE 19963157 Al also have the disadvantage that they have to be placed in the CD, which is complex and expensive. This problem is also solved by a print medium with an integrated transponder, whereby the copying or playback device takes over the contact-free communication.

The features listed in the claims show the solutions to the problems of the print medium according to the invention. Some embodiments are described below.

The basic requirement of this print medium according to the invention is a passive or active transponder which is integrated in or on the so-called print medium instead of known barcode systems. This transponder can be integrated, for example, in printable paper, foils or textiles.

Passive transponders are contactless identification devices, preferably consisting of a silicon chip with an external antenna, without their own power supply. The required power is supplied by the HF field of the read/write unit. Transponders are completely maintenance-free and have a much longer service life than printed barcodes. Systems with 125 kHz / 13.56 MHz have become the global standard. Depending on the design, transponders are very temperature-resistant. Temperatures between -70 degrees and + 200 degrees are quite realistic. Active transponders are constructed in a similar way, but have their own power supply.

The various designs currently available on the market result in a wide range of possible applications, which according to the invention also enable the integration of these transponders into paper, films or textiles.

Data and information can be stored on this transponder in coded and uncoded form without contact and then read out later. This read/write device can be a mobile device, e.g. a cell phone, which retrieves information stored in the transponder of the print medium without contact. The retrieved data can then be transmitted to the service provider's computer server via radio, satellite or other known transmission technologies.

This read data can be, for example, letters or combinations of numbers behind which product information is hidden in the service provider's server. All relevant product information can then be transmitted to the user on the cell phone in readable form via the known transmission channels. Important information from the server can then also be read back into the transponder in coded form via the cell phone.

The following areas of application are conceivable: Special catalogs with articles that require explanation could, for example, have integrated transponders in addition to the printed product information, which can be identified and read by the customer using a cell phone. The identification number is then transmitted to the service provider's server, which then transmits product information to the user's cell phone. This can be product information, current prices, discounts, etc. This information can now be processed via the customer's cell phone. It is conceivable, for example, that the customer places an order for the article via their cell phone and at the same time a price confirmation is sent by the customer's server, which is then stored in the transponder of the print medium via the cell phone. This means that an electronic price confirmation with, for example, delivery promises is stored in the catalog. This data can then also be retrieved from the catalog by employees with access authorization. This saves enormous administrative effort, as, for example, price confirmations or delivery promises no longer have to be searched for in thick files.

In the private sector, for example, an electronic shopping list is conceivable. Brochures or catalogs with integrated transponders could be read and then stored on the mobile phone. With this shopping list, for example, the customer could be guided to the shelves with the selected products in the supermarket via a navigation system integrated into the mobile phone. This saves the time-consuming search for articles.

It is also possible to order goods that are read from the print media and sent to the supermarket server via the mobile phone. The article information is read from the transponder and sent to the supermarket server via the mobile phone.

The article is then confirmed, which automatically initiates cashless payment transactions. The customer's check card is then activated via the mobile phone and a chip card reader integrated in the mobile phone. Payment is then initiated via the known PIN confirmation. The customer then has the option of having the service provider put together the goods they have ordered, so that they can then be picked up or sent. This saves the customer unnecessary waiting at crowded checkouts and the time-consuming search for parking spaces in crowded supermarkets. This means that a drive-in system can also be set up here, as is already known from the fast food sector.

Other areas of application for these print media include important documents such as certificates, certifications, testimonials or wills that are provided with a transponder. These aforementioned documents are then given an additional electronic seal, for example by a notary, which is used to identify the letter. In addition, important data, numbers or information that is also legible on the document can be stored in the transponder seal. This electronically accessible data can then be compared with the data stored with the notary, making forgeries more difficult.

Savings books, shares or checks can also be equipped with these transponders. These savings books, shares or checks can then be processed electronically by suitable read/write and printing devices.

The print medium according to the invention can also be used to create important planning documents. When creating plans (e.g. building plans, escape route plans, inventory plans, etc.), important information can be stored in the transponder of the plans, which can then be read using a mobile reader. For example, rescue and extinguishing information for fire departments and rescue services can be stored in these plans. In the event of a fire, a lack of information can thus be quickly compensated for on site by using the mobile reader to retrieve precise data on flammable components. A fire-fighting operation that meets the requirements can thus be decided on site at short notice. A facility management plan can also be created during the construction phase of a property, which can then be used for later property management.

Using the data stored in the construction or inventory plan in the transponder, important object data can later be read out without contact, so that an information and maintenance plan can be created for important system components. A navigation system then guides people to the objects that require maintenance. Information from the plan with transponder can also be read out during the construction phase using a mobile device. This has the advantage that the construction company can read out additional detailed information, e.g. on the building materials to be used, from the plan using the mobile device. As already described for the systems mentioned above, this additional information can be made available on a server which, for example, compares the identification number of the component from the plan with the transponder and forwards this component information to the mobile device. It is also possible to transfer surveying data directly from the surveying devices to the plan with the transponder. The actual coordinates are stored in the CAD inventory plan at the location of the survey using a mobile device. This electronic, readable plan can then be scanned for further processing, whereby the data from the transponder in the plan can also be read out and processed during the scanning process.

Another area of application for this print medium according to the invention can also be seen in books. For example, cookbooks can be equipped with this print medium with a transponder. This makes it possible to read the required cooking ingredients from the print medium with a transponder using a mobile device. This ingredient shopping list can then be sent to the service provider (e.g. supermarket), who then puts together the ingredients and delivers them. Preparation data can also be read from the cookbook without contact and then transferred to the stove, for example. This means that baking times can also be transferred from the cookbook to the stove using the mobile device.

The use of these print media with transponders is also conceivable on compact disks, CD-ROMs or DVDs. The transponder labels attached to these CDs can help to identify the legal purchase of these CDs. For example, these CDs with transponder labels can be read by the playback device without contact.

The player then compares the identification number and gives permission to play the CD. Since the label is designed in such a way that it is destroyed when removed from the CD, this provides additional security for the CD manufacturer. This makes it more difficult to steal software and data. The transponder can also be integrated into the CD.

A method for processing these print media in copiers, fax machines and printers is also the subject of this invention. For example, if the print medium with integrated transponder is used as a fax, the following processing options arise:

The normal writable paper with a transponder, on which user-authorized data is integrated, is sent in the conventional way with the readable information via the fax machine. In the fax machine, which contains a write/read device for contact-free communication between the fax machine and the print medium with a transponder, the data is read from the transponder and transferred to the recipient's fax machine. The recipient's fax machine is also equipped with this write/read device and now writes the unreadable information onto the transponder in the fax recipient's print medium. The recipient can now read the information on the transponder of the fax sheet using a reader. This ensures that important information can only be read from the fax with a transponder by people with access authorization.

When copying or printing print media with an integrated transponder, data and information can be applied to or read from the transponder of the print medium without contact, for example by copying and printing devices. The writing and reading device is also integrated in the copying or printing devices.

Another important area of application is the contactless monitoring of goods or products. In particular, product labels can be equipped with integrated so-called data loggers/sensors, which are then able to monitor transport from the manufacturer to the end user. These data loggers, which are integrated on or in the label or information leaflet of goods, then record temperature curves or shock areas during transport. This makes it possible to reconstruct an accurate record during transport, especially for perishable goods.

This data can then be read out of the data logger without contact using a mobile device. This allows seamless recording and evaluation of data during transport. For example, food inspectors can then use their mobile device or cell phone to compare transport data from the data logger/sensor with the permissible product data stored on the manufacturer's server. This data comparison enables rapid action to protect consumers.

Summary:

The print medium according to the invention with mobile reading, writing, navigation and payment system enables quick processing of goods orders and a short information path between customer and service provider. The use of data loggers and sensors in the print medium enables simple goods inspection, which promotes consumer protection. Another advantage of this print medium is its use on data storage devices, as simple copy protection is possible here.

1. Print medium, in particular catalogues, brochures, direct mailings, magazines, books, plans, and CD/DVD labels, etc. with integrated, contact-free, readable and/or writable information, order, navigation and payment system, characterized by
that in addition to the readable information on the print system, additional information in coded or uncoded form is integrated in or on the print medium in the form of transponders or sensors/data loggers that can be read without contact;
that the information is read using a mobile device, which is preferably a mobile phone;
that this mobile device is connected via satellite, radio or cable connections to a remote stationary data server of a seller/dealer, which processes the coded or uncoded data read from the transponders or sensors of the print media and transmits additional information and data to the user via or on the mobile device;
that parts of these transmitted coded or uncoded data can be transferred contact-free into the transponder or sensor of the print medium;
that a navigation system is integrated into the mobile device, which enables the user to find goods that have been read in via the print medium with an integrated transponder or sensor more quickly at the storage location of the goods (e.g. in a department store),
that the mobile device has a device for identifying check cards, which enables a cashless transfer of the ordered products or services that were read via the print medium with a transponder or sensor and ordered with the mobile device;
