Light-emitting diode arrangement in transparent, flat advertising media, particularly in acrylic glass surfaces.

In DE 200 06 812.1 it has already been proposed to illuminate a transparent, flat advertising medium using light-emitting diodes, which are preferably arranged with their longitudinal axis vertically in the top or base surface of the advertising medium in hollow spaces carved out of the advertising medium for this purpose. In this invention, the advertising medium consists of only one part.

The invention specified in claim 1 is based on the problem of achieving additional lighting effects to those already known when using light-emitting diodes in transparent, flat advertising media, in particular good illumination of, for example, very flat advertising letters.

This problem is solved by the measures of claim 1.

With the invention, in the specified application, it is achieved that, for example, when the advertising medium is designed as a letter, a complete and compact sign can be produced without a housing in a safe design and, due to the special design, a diffuse light is generated in the advertising medium and thus individual light points generated by the light-emitting diodes are no longer or hardly recognizable, depending on the type of design.

Advantageous embodiments are specified in claims 2 to 5. In the further development according to claim 2, advantageous scattering is achieved by roughening. According to claim 3, the diffusing disc can be omitted to reduce costs or to reduce the thickness of the advertising medium. In order to color the advertising medium, according to claim 4, the outer plate is provided with a translucent colored film. The further development according to claim 5 describes the attachment of light reflectors to the free back of the advertising medium or to the side surfaces of the advertising medium and to the diffusing disc in the form of films or paint.

An example of implementation is explained in more detail using the drawing. It shows:

Fig. 1 is a plan view of an I-shaped advertising medium with incorporated cavities for accommodating the light-emitting diodes with slots for accommodating the electrical connections between the light-emitting diodes, but without a diffuser and a translucent plate, and Fig. 2 is a section through a complete advertising medium with a diffuser and a translucent plate and the light-emitting diode arrangement.

The invention uses the previously proposed arrangement of light-emitting diodes 1 within the advertising medium 2. For this purpose, hollow spaces 3 are incorporated into the advertising medium 2 on one side of the advertising medium 2 and slots 5 are incorporated to accommodate the electrical connections between the individual light-emitting diodes 1. The light-emitting diodes 1 are arranged in the hollow spaces. On this side of the advertising medium with the hollow spaces 3 with the light-emitting diodes 1, an equally large but thin diffuser disk 6, the entire side surfaces of which are roughened to scatter the light, is arranged, and on top of this a translucent plate 7 with equally roughened side surfaces. This plate 7 is preferably somewhat larger in circumference than the equally sized advertising medium 2 and diffuser disk 6. This creates a step between the diffuser disk 6 and the plate 7, which can also be used as a circumferential adhesive point 10. This achieves a waterproof design of the entire advertising medium. The back and the side surfaces of the advertising medium 2 and also the side surfaces of the diffuser 6 are provided with a light reflector 8. This can be, for example, a varnish, a color or plastic film or a color film. The translucent plate 7 is also provided with a color film 9.

Claims (5)

1. Light-emitting diode arrangement in transparent, flat advertising media, in which the light-emitting diodes are arranged in the top or base surface in hollow spaces carved out for this purpose and which are electrically connected to one another, characterized in that on the side of the light-emitting diodes ( 1 ) of the advertising media ( 2 ) incorporated in hollow spaces ( 3 ), a diffuser ( 6 ) with the same peripheral dimensions as the advertising media ( 2 ) and then a translucent plate ( 7 ) with the same or larger peripheral dimensions as the advertising media ( 2 ) are arranged, wherein an adhesive point ( 10 ) connects the advertising media ( 2 ) to the diffuser ( 6 ) and the plate ( 7 ) all around. 2. Light-emitting diode arrangement according to claim 1, characterized in that the diffuser ( 6 ) and the plate ( 7 ) are roughened on all sides. 3. Light-emitting diode arrangement according to claim 1 and 2, characterized in that the plate ( 7 ) is arranged directly on the side of the incorporated light-emitting diodes ( 1 ) of the advertising medium ( 2 ), without the intermediate arrangement of a diffusing disk ( 6 ). 4. Light-emitting diode arrangement according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the large surface of the plate ( 7 ) is covered towards the outside with a light-permeable colour film ( 9 ). 5. Light-emitting diode arrangement according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the advertising medium ( 2 ) is provided on the free rear side with a light reflector ( 8 ), consisting for example of a coloured film, plastic or lacquer, and this light reflector ( 8 ) in special embodiments extends beyond the side edges of the diffuser ( 6 ).
