Trailers, especially for the transport of horses

The innovation relates to a trailer according to the preamble of claim 1, which is particularly suitable for the transport of horses and, in the specific case, for tournament riders, but is not limited to this application.

Trailers for transporting horses, especially competition horses, are usually designed in such a way that the wheels or pairs of wheels protrude over the side walls on the left and right, so that the interior of the trailer is as large and smooth as possible for the horses. The wheels or pairs of wheels that protrude over the outer walls are covered by sturdy wheel arches, which protrude about 25 cm from the side walls on both sides.

Since the interior of the trailer is entirely reserved for the horse, it is often very difficult for users of such transport trailers, especially tournament riders, to store personal items, e.g. clothing, but also accessories for equestrian sports, in a lockable and secure manner in the trailer.

The aim of the innovation is therefore to design such transport trailers in such a way that a cupboard-like container is available in which the rider can store personal items or items for the horse or similar separately and safely.

According to the innovation, it is proposed to arrange a cupboard-like container on at least one of the side walls of the trailer above the wheel arch, the depth of which is equal to or smaller than the width of the wheel arch. This does not affect the maneuverability and road safety of the trailer, as the cupboard-like container on the outside of the trailer does not protrude beyond the wheel arch and thus the overall width of the trailer is not increased. On the other hand, the rider is given the opportunity to store his utensils in the cupboard-like or

to store the luggage in a suitcase-like container in a safe and lockable manner and to adapt the cupboard-like container to the outer circumference of the trailer in such a way that the free space already available above the wheel arches is used sensibly.

Preferably, the cabinet-like container and the wheel housing are integrated into the side wall and have a substantially streamlined outer boundary. Furthermore, it is expedient to make the container and wheel housing from the same material and with the same paint as the side wall, in particular from plastic, e.g. polyester, from aluminum or from a corresponding, suitable, moldable material.

The cabinet-like container can be designed either over the entire length of the side wall of the trailer or over a part, particularly the part above the wheel arch, depending on the specific requirements of the application. The container can be streamlined and elegantly styled - similar to the well-known roof rack boxes on cars - so that air resistance can be kept very low when driving at high speeds. Furthermore, the container can either be integrated into the side wall of the trailer during manufacture or can be attached to the side wall using fastening devices, whereby the base of the container can also be supported on the wheel cap. If necessary, the side wall can be stiffened accordingly on the inside at the attachment points in order to give the container sufficient load-bearing capacity even when carrying higher loads. Such a cabinet-like container can alternatively be provided on one side or on both sides of the trailer.

The cabinet-like container itself is designed, for example, in the manner of a suitcase or a cupboard, so that the front can be opened and closed by two door halves, a hinged door mounted at the top that can be swung up, a roller shutter door, a sliding door parallel to the side wall or the like, whereby the door can be locked for security reasons. The maximum width of the vehicle corresponds approximately to the width of a wheel arch (approx. 25 - 30 cm), so that there are no restrictions with regard to road traffic.

A transport trailer 1 which is pulled by a motor vehicle and which is designed as a single-axle or double-axle vehicle with wheels 2, 3 has side walls 4 and 5 and a front or rear wall 6 which can be folded out as an exit area. A wheel housing 7 is arranged on both sides above the wheels 2, 3, which projects outwards from the side wall 4 or 5 and covers the wheels 2, 3 from above. A cupboard-like container 8 is arranged above the wheel housing 7, which is attached to the side wall 4 and/or the wheel housing 7 and which has a door 9 which can be opened from and to the outside. The cupboard-like container 8 serves to hold personal utensils, equipment and the like, in particular to hold items of clothing.

The preferred application of such a transport trailer is the transport of horses, and in this case the cupboard-like container is designed in particular to accommodate the rider's clothing, personal items and other utensils required for equestrian sports. The cupboard-like container 9

has a depth that is slightly smaller than the width of the wheel arches 7 (approx. 25 - 30 cm), so that the container 8 never protrudes laterally beyond the wheel arches and thus does not exceed the total width of the trailer. The back of the cabinet-like container 8 is connected to the side wall 4, preferably detachably, using screw fastenings. For this purpose, the side wall 4 can be reinforced at the corresponding mounting points with stiffeners if the stability of the side wall is not considered sufficient.

The cabinet-like container can optionally also be integrated with the side wall 4 and/or with the wheel housing 7, so that the cabinet-like container and side wall or container and wheel housing form a unit and are formed together during the manufacture of the trailer.

Furthermore, the cabinet-like container can extend over part of the length of the side wall 4 or 5, or over the entire length of the side wall 4. The doors of such a container can be designed as single-leaf or double-leaf, as sliding doors 12 or as rolling doors 11 and can be lockable. The shape of such a cabinet container is preferably streamlined to reduce air resistance when driving at high speeds and the design is adapted to the overall shape of the trailer.

Claims (11)

1. Transport trailer for motor vehicles, in particular for the transport of horses, with at least one wheel axle with wheels with hubcaps protruding outwards from the side walls, characterized by a cabinet-like container ( 8 , 9 ) arranged on at least one side wall ( 4 , 5 ) above the wheel housings ( 7 ), the depth of which is equal to or smaller than the width of the wheel housing ( 7 ). 2. Transport trailer according to claim 1, characterized in that the cabinet-like container ( 8 , 9 ) and the wheel house ( 7 ) of the side wall ( 4 , 5 ) are integrated into the side wall and have a substantially streamlined outer boundary. 3. Transport trailer according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the cabinet-like container ( 8 , 9 ) and the wheel housing ( 7 ) are made of the same material and with the same paint finish. 4. Transport trailer according to one of claims 1 to 3, characterized in that the cabinet-like container ( 8 ) is fixed on the outside of the side wall ( 4 ) of the trailer ( 1 ). 5. Transport trailer according to one of claims 1 to 4, characterized in that the width of the cabinet-like container ( 8 ) corresponds approximately to the length of the wheel cap ( 7 ). 6. Transport trailer according to one of claims 1 to 4, characterized in that the width of the cabinet-like container ( 8 ) corresponds substantially to the length of the side wall ( 4 ) of the trailer ( 1 ). 7. Transport trailer according to one of claims 1-6, characterized in that the outside of the cabinet-like container ( 8 ) is designed as a door ( 9 ). 8.
