In dünnbesiedelten Küstenregionen, in Ländern mit akutem Wassermangel sowie in Entwicklungs- und Schwellenländern werden zur Sicherung des Trinkwasserbedarfs in zunehmendem Umfang Meerwasserentsalzungsanlagen errichtet. Dabei entstehen immer wieder Probleme mit der Absicherung der benötigten Energie und der Zwischenspeicherung des erzeugten Trinkwassers und dessen Aufbereitung.In sparsely populated coastal regions, in countries with acute water shortages, and in developing and emerging countries, seawater desalination plants are increasingly being built to meet drinking water needs.
