The invention relates to a device for draining water from a water tank according to the preamble of claim 1.

From DE 37 36 780 a grid-like cover for a water tank of a motor vehicle is known, which extends over the width of the vehicle and covers the gap between the hood and the windshield so that no leaves or the like can enter the water tank and block the drainage openings for the water.

The object of the invention is to provide a device for draining water from a water tank through drainage openings which are kept free of leaves and the like and which is easy to install and retrofit.

This object is achieved according to the invention by the features of the claim. Further advantageous features are contained in the subclaims.

The main advantages achieved with the invention are that a grid-like sleeve is inserted into the existing drainage openings of the water tank, which protrudes upwards above the fastening point in the water tank and thus, when water enters with mixed leaves, the water can flow away without clogging the drainage openings and the leaves are caught by the grid-like sleeve.

The grid-like sleeve can be made of metal, plastic or another suitable material. A grid mat is also possible, which is then formed into a grid-like sleeve.

To ensure that the grid-like sleeve can be retrofitted without any problems, it is inserted into the existing elastic drain spout of the water tank under pre-tension.

Advantageously, the grid-like sleeves can also be designed to protrude at different heights.

To prevent the leaves entering the water tank from clogging the grid-like sleeve from above, a cover cap made of a grid material can be placed on top of it.

An embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the drawing, which shows a section through the water tank with an inserted grid-like &iacgr;&ogr; sleeve.

A water tank 1 of a motor vehicle, which is shown schematically, is arranged transversely in front of the windshield in the body structure when viewed in the direction of travel so that the water can be drained off in the gap between a rear hood edge and the windshield. For this purpose, several drainage openings 5 are provided in the water tank 1, in which elastic drainage nozzles 2 are arranged.

In order to prevent these drain spouts 2 from becoming blocked by leaves or the like, a grid-like sleeve 3, for example made of a mesh, is inserted into them, which extends from the drain spout 2 upwards with a height h. This ensures that the water mixed with leaves can flow away without obstruction, since the leaves catch on the grid-like sleeve 3.

The grid-like sleeve 3 can consist of a plastic part or a metal part and is either inserted directly into the elastic drain nozzle 2, as shown in the drawing, or the grid-like sleeve 3 is inserted solely into the drain opening of the water tank 1. A connection to the water tank 1 can be made by clamping or by other connection to the sleeve 3.

Preferably, however, the drain spout 2, which is already present in the drain opening 5 of the water tank 1, is inserted under pre-tension.

The height h of the grid-like sleeve 3 can be varied as required to ensure that no leaves can clog the drainage opening 5. A cover 4 is provided here to prevent leaves from blocking the grid-like sleeve 3 from above. This cover 4 can also be made of a grid-like material or a closed lid can be used.

Device for draining water from a water tank arranged in a body structure of the vehicle and running transversely in front of a windshield via drain openings, characterized in that at least one grid-like sleeve ( 3 ) is inserted into the drain openings ( 5 ), which projects upwards above the base of the water tank ( 1 ) with a height (h). 2. Device according to claim 1, characterized in that the grid-like sleeve ( 3 ) consists of a plastic material. 3. Device according to claims 1 or 2, characterized in that the grid-like sleeve ( 3 ) is held inserted into an elastic drain spout ( 2 ) under prestress. 4. Device according to claims 1, 2 or 3, characterized in that grid-like sleeves ( 3 ) with different heights are inserted into the drain openings of the water tank. 5. Device according to one or more of the preceding claims, characterized in that the grid-shaped sleeve ( 3 ) has a cover ( 4 ) made of a grid-shaped lid ( 4 ) or a closed lid.
