Um eine Beschädigung durch den scharfkantigen Rand der geprägten Platine, beispielsweise beim Waschen des Kraftwagens, zu verhindern, ist es weiter bekannt, an dem Rand des Nummernschildes einen diesen umgreifenden Überzugskörper vorzusehen. Ein bekannter Überzugskörper nach dem DE-Gbm 18 76381 besteht aus einem geschlitzten Schlauch, der auf den Umfang des Nummernschildes geschoben und an seinen Enden durch Klebung oder Schweißung verbunden wird.
