Gut wärmeleitende Werkstoffe wie Kupfer und dergl. besitzen jedoch regelmäßig nur geringe Festigkeit, insbesondere Verschleißfestigkeit, sodaß infolge des Wärmeüberganges durch Kontakt alsbald Verschleißerscheinungen in Form von unerwünschten Rillenbildungen und dergl. auftreten. Daher ist eine Kontaktauflage aus verschleißfesterem Werkstoff üblich und erforderlich. - Chromauflagen oder Hartchromauflagen, die man auf die metallische Trägerplatte aufbringt, werden regelmäßig mit Hilfe von Verchromungsbädern, d.h# elektrolytisch aufgebracht. Die Auflage ist daher nicht porenfrei. Das hat Nachteile.
