Sie befindet sich üblicherweise hinter den Rücksitzen des Kraftfahrzeugs unterhalb einer Heckscheibe und bildet eine horizontale Unterteilung zwischen Fahrgastraum und Gepäckraum. Die funktionale Integration zumindest eines Teils dieser horizontalen Trennwand in das Leichtmetalldruckgussteil reduziert die Zahl der für die Karosserie des Kraftfahrzeugs benötigten Einzelteile.
