Die Erfindung bezieht sich auf eine für Kraftfahrzeugscheinwerfer geeignete Glühlampe mit einer ein Abblendlicht liefernden Lichtquelle, welche vor dem Brennpunkt eines Hohlspiegels anzuordnen ist, sich etwas seitlich und oberhalb der optischen Achse befindet und zum Teil gegen den Hohlspiegel hin durch einen Schirm abgedeckt ist. Dieser Schirm bewirkt, daß beim Einschalten des Abblendlichtes ein nach abwärts gerichtetes Lichtbündel mit einer mindestens nach der Seite des Gegenverkehrs hin waagerechten Helldunkelgrenze entsteht. Durch diese Ausgestaltung des Abblendschirmes, welcher der oberhalb der optischen Mitte des Scheinwerfers und etwas seitlich verschoben angeordneten Abblendlichtquelle zugeordnet ist, wird erreicht, daß das von dieser Lichtquelle ausgestrahlte und vom Hohlspiegel reflektierte Licht besonders günstig verteilt wird. Der Bereich größter Lichtstärke erstreckt sich nämlich über die zu befahrende Fahrbahnseite und den äußeren Fahrbahnrand, während die dem Gegenverkehr zugewandte Fahrbahn wesentlich schwächeres Licht erhält, das keine Blendwirkungen hervorruft. Da von dem gesamten ausgestrahlten Lichtbündel nur ein kleiner Sektor durch den schmalen Schirm abgeschattet wird, läßt sich eine nahezu vollkommene Lichtausnutzung erreichen.
