Description
Means for to protect materials against termites Termites are in tropical and subtropical countries, the most important and versatile animal material pests. You can destroy not only the timber of the houses, but all utensils and technical goods made of wood, paper, textiles, plastics, paints, rubber, leather, etc. It is therefore necessary to use suitable methods to protect such materials from being eaten by termites. In more densely populated and economically significant areas z. B. the protection of houses, furniture, textiles, cables, electrical appliances, car and radio components, upholstery, documents, book covers, etc. are an important problem.
So far, termite repellants have been used almost exclusively in practice for lumber and building boards. In many cases, this is what is cheap but irritating to the skin Pentachlorophenol used for wood.
The protection of materials other than wood has so far been of little interest found. Whole houses can with their content through one - but right costly - soil treatment to be protected from termite invasion. So far, mainly products such as 1,2,3,4,10,10-hexachloro-1, 4, 4a, 5, 8, 8a-hexahydro-1,4, 5, 8-dimethylene-naphthalene, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 8-octachlor-3 a, 4, 7, 7 a-tetrahydro-4, 7 - methylenindane, 1,1,1-trichloro - 2, 2-bis - (p - chlorophenyl) - ethane, 1, 2, 3, 4, 10, 10 - hexachlor - 6, 7 - epoxy -1, 4, 4 a, 5, 6, 7, 8, 8 a-octahydro-1, 4, 5, 8-dimethylene-naphthalene and 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 8-heptachlor-3 a, 4, 7, 7 a-tetrahydro-4,7-endomethylene indene, which as Insecticides are known under various trade names.
As a protective agent for other materials, e.g. B. paper and jute occasionally also 1,1,1-trichloro-2,2-bis (p-chlorophenyl) -ethane or γ-hexachlorocyclohexane used.
In the search for particularly effective products it has now been found that compounds of the chloromethanesulfonic acid anilide type, which continue in the phenyl radical are substituted by trifluoromethyl groups and in which the phenyl radical continues can be substituted by halogen, have an excellent termite protection effect. The effectiveness could both in laboratory tests and after familiarization with technical Materials are confirmed. The connections protect wood, building boards, paper, Textiles, plastics, rubber, leather and other materials are already in use from 1 to 2%, sometimes even in a considerably lower concentration, permanently against termite damage.
Example 1 A 0.5 mm thick filter disk with a diameter of 9 cm is used with 2 cm3 of a 0.05% acetone solution of chloromethanesulfonyl-2-chloro-5-trifluoromethylaniline treated so that the paper is soaked evenly. After 4 days of evaporation 20 termite workers are placed in a metal ring on the treated paper surface. All test animals are dead after 24 hours of contact; the filter disc remains undamaged. The experiment with a 0.005% solution shows an equally good effect. In case of reduction at a concentration of 0.0005% the killing effect is only 70%, without damaging the material. After storage in a tropical climate, the Filter disc treated with 0.05% solution still had the same effect after weeks.
Example 2 1 part by weight of the compound chloromethanesulfonyl-2-chloro-5-trifluoromethylanine is rolled in 100 parts by weight of polyethylene at 130 ° C for 6 to 8 minutes, so that the active ingredient is homogeneously dissolved in the polyethylene. Polyethylene foils equipped in this way have both in the forced feeding test and in the feeding selection test after a 1-year test period 100% toxic effect and complete resistance to feeding against termites.
Auf gleiche Weise wirksam sind die folgenden Verbindungen: Chlormethansulfonyl-2-brom-5-trifluormethylanilin und das Chlormethansulfonyl-3,5-di-(trifluormethylanilin).The following compounds are equally effective: chloromethanesulfonyl-2-bromo-5-trifluoromethylaniline and the chloromethanesulfonyl-3,5-di (trifluoromethylaniline).
