Hierzu verwendet man Kabeltrommeln, die aber einer besonderen Wartung bedürfen. Sind die Fahrwege des Kranes auf eine bestimmte Strecke begrenzt, so arbeitet man auch mit Schleppkabeln, die einerseits am Ende der Fahrbahn, andererseits am Kran befestigt und dazwischen an Kabelwagen aufgehängt werden. Die Gesamtablauflänge des Kabelwagens wird also ungünstigenfalls um den Durchmesser der Stützrollen größer als der maximale Weg des ortsveränderlichen Verbrauchers.
