Abstract
La presente invención descubre métodos para tratar materiales celulósicos con una composición que proporciona hicrofobicidad incrementada a estos materiales sin sacrificar la biodegradabilidad de los mismos. Los métodos como se describen proorcionan esterificación de grupos hidroxilo disponibles en materiales celulósicos, en donde estos grupos hidroxilo se "enmascaran o cubren" por voluminosas cadenas orgánicas, tal que la decsripción proporciona productos elaborados por estos métodos. Los materiales tratados de esta manera presentan mayor hidrofobicidad, función de barrera, y propiedades mecánicas, y se pueden usar en cualquier apliacción donde se deseen estas características.
