当车辆挂入倒挡，本实用新型中的汽车倒车灯亮起显示“R”字形，“R”是英文单词Reverse(倒车挡)的首字母。这时后面车辆的驾驶员就能够直观的意识到前面汽车的状态，有效的减少了驾驶员的反应时间，提高驾驶员的处理速度，及时采取措施防止意外事故的发生。 
优选地，所述能够显示“R”字形的提示灯是LED灯，“R”字形是由若干个能够显示红光的LED排列组合而成。
