If the document is stolen, the issuing office or bank can determine the missing valid serial number or barcode number on the holographic pasteboard (10) by comparing the delivered serial number or barcode with the registered valid serial number into a barcode. Failure to link the delivered serial number or barcode with the serial number or barcode recorded on the issuer's or bank's register may alert the issuer and bank that the delivered check or document may be invalid.
