技术领域

背景技术
在近来通信发展中相对持续的一个方面是要求提高性能。同样地,也存在使物体更紧凑(例如,提高密集性)的持续需求。对于数据通信中使用的I/O连接器,这些需求引起一些问题。使用更高的频率(有利于提高数据率)需要连接器内的信号端子之间良好的电气隔离(从而例如减小串扰)。然而,将连接器制造得更小(例如,使端子设置更密集)使得端子更靠近一起并趋向于减小电气隔离,这会引起信号衰减。
除了提高性能的需求,还存在改进制造的需求。例如,随着信号发送频率的增加,端子的位置公差以及其物理特性变得更重要。因此,对连接器设计的改进需要有利于制造,同时还提供密集的高性能的连接器。
I/O连接器可用于“内部”应用中,举例来说,I/O连接器及其对接插头连接器被整体装入例如路由器、服务器、转换器等的组件内,或者,I/O连接器可用于“外部”应用中,其中I/O连接器被部分装入组件内,但是I/O连接器的插座部分与组件的外部相通,从而插头连接器可用于将该I/O连接器连接到其它组件。内部和外部连接器中使用的不同设计容易提高成本,因此一些人需要改进的连接器设计。
发明内容
本发明提供一种I/O子组件(subassembly),其可用于内部和外部应用中。在外部应用中,一护罩可封住并支撑子组件。在内部应用中,一引导框架可支撑子组件。所述子组件包括多个由壳体支撑的针座(wafer),每个针座可包括绝缘框架,所述绝缘框架支撑多个端子以提供一个或多个卡容纳槽。所述壳体包括第一接合部件和第二接合部件,以将壳体固定到护罩或引导框架。在一实施方式中,所述第一接合部件具有倾斜部,其允许壳体与引导框架形成鸠尾接合,所述第二接合部件具有与设置于外部应用中的紧固件相接合的多面部。所述多面部可邻近倾斜部设置,从而多面部主要用作止动表面,同时倾斜部允许壳体与引导框架形成鸠尾接合。

I/O连接器具有允许其在内部或外部应用中使用的结构已被确定是合意的,从而减少制造成本并减少维持多种连接器产品以适合多种应用的需求。已经确定这可以通过提供与外部支撑和内部支撑兼容的子组件来实现。
图1示出了子组件100的一种实施方式。子组件100为绝缘壳体101的形式,所述绝缘壳体101具有相互接合的第一和第二(或前和后)部分或部件102,103。如图1所示,壳体101具有宽的主体部104和对接部107,主体部104在后表面105和前表面106之间延伸,对接部107为伸长的鼻部108形式,鼻部108在前表面106的前方凸出并终止在对接面109。对接面109可以具有一个和多个在对接面109上横向形成的电路卡容纳槽110,图1中示出了两个这种槽110。
如图2-5所示,壳体101具有中空的内部112,该内部112容纳多个针座115形式的端子组件114。每个这种针座115包括多个导电端子116,导电端子116具有从框架115的一个边缘118凸出的尾部117和从框架115的第二边缘120凸出的接触部119。在所示出的实施方式中,两边缘118,120彼此相邻,但是可以想象在某些应用中,接触部和尾部可以沿框架115的相对两边缘布置。端子116还包括将尾部117和接触部119连接在一起的本体部121。端子组件的框架115可具有在其内形成的狭槽形式的开123,该开123沿端子的本体部121延伸以暴露于空气,从而影响端子的阻抗。
针座115以这样的方式在壳体101内固定在一起成为一组或一批,使得端子尾部117穿过壳体101的底部延伸出,端子接触部119从框架115的边缘120延伸到壳体鼻部108。接触部119被布置在框架115内形成为端子对,每一对都被容纳在一个卡容纳槽110内并在其相对两侧上(图2和图4)。
根据附图特别是图2可以理解,接触部119的结构是悬臂的并用作接触梁,当插入电路卡时,接触部119从槽110偏斜。为了允许接触部119的向上和向下的偏斜,壳体101的鼻部108具有端子容纳腔125,该端子容纳腔125沿每个槽110的中心线上下延伸预先选择的垂直距离。
回到图1和图2,壳体101具有沿不规则的对接线126相对接的两部件102,103,对接线126沿着从壳体101的前面向后面延伸的路径穿过壳体101的侧面向上延伸。该不规则的对接线有利于壳体的模塑成型,其在2008年12月12日提交的申请号为No.61/122,102的美国临时专利申请“两件式薄壁壳体(Two-Piece Thin Wall Housing)”中被更详细地描述,其公开的内容通过引用被结合到本发明中。两壳体部件102、103分别沿该不规则的、非线性的对接线126互锁或接合在一起。
由于这种不规则的配置,一对轨道128和通道129形成在两壳体部件102、103内,轨道128被装入通道129内。外部肋131还可形成在后壳体部件103的外侧表面上,这些外部肋131优选与轨道128水平地对齐,以提供对轨道128的加固,并提供下面将会更详细描述的用于在外部护罩内定位子组件100的方式。
在一实施方式中,壳体101被设置成其可以装入引导框架和护罩内。现在参照图7-12,示出了安装到电路板301上的引导框架300的一个实施方式。该引导框架300是有用的,因为其可被安装在电子元件例如路由器或服务器内的电路板上,并且引导部件300用于引导对接插头连接器与子组件100的卡容纳槽相接合。由于引导框架典型地被布置在被防护的组件内,这被称作内部应用。
引导框架300优选通过绝缘材料例如树脂模塑成型,并可在选取的位置上包括一个或多个金属加固部件。该引导框架300为四壁框架302形式,框架302被安装到电路板301,并具有多个连接在一起以限定一个或多个中空内部开口310的支柱和横梁,连接器100被容纳在开口310内。可以包括相互连接在一起以形成方形或矩形结构并配合限定延伸穿过引导框架300的一个或多个开口310的一对支柱或侧壁304、305,下横梁或壁306和上横梁或壁307。每个这种开口310优选在其内以这样的方式容纳单个子组件100,使得护罩壁304-307围绕壳体101的鼻部108。支柱304、305具有在开口310的后面设置的加宽部304’、305’。
引导框架300还可包括从上壁307向前水平地伸出的对接凸耳或凸缘312。该凸缘312主要用于与相对的插头连接器相互作用,并因此可包括由沿上壁307的前表面317相互隔开的两肩部316所部分限定的横向狭槽314(图9)。该狭槽314优选容纳相对的对接连接器(未示出)上的销(key),以确保与子组件100的适当对接。该凸缘312还可包括一个或多个凹槽或腔室318,腔室318邻近凸缘312的前边缘319布置,并沿护罩凸缘312横向隔开。这些腔室318被定位为使得其顶部与在相对的对接插头连接器上形成的相应的接合钩或部件接合。如图9和11所示,引导框架300可被形成为与单个的子组件100相接合,或者如图7,8和10所示,其可具有与多个连接器子组件100相接合的成套结构。
为了在引导框架300内将子组件100适当地布置就位,引导框架300可如所示设有两个保持部件330、340,它们分别布置在护罩开口310的相对的上边缘和下边缘上。上保持部件330在开口310内向下延伸并具有与子组件100鸠尾接合的倾斜部。同样地,下保持部件340也具有倾斜结构,但是由两部分组成,即上部341和下部342。上部341是倾斜的,但是相对于上保持部件330以倒置方式定向,也就是说,上部341的顶部宽于底部。下保持部件的下部342具有多个平坦表面343(图中示出了5个这种表面),这些平坦表面相对彼此成角度地布置并形成半六边形或半八边形的总的形状。这些平坦表面343邻接壳体101内形成的相对表面以在引导框架300内将壳体101固定就位。如图8所示,这两个保持部件330、340优选沿共同的轴线“CA”相互对准,但是在一些情形下,它们可以相互错位。
为了接合引导框架300,子组件100的壳体101优选设有第一接合部件150和第二接合部件152。这在图1-2,4和6中更好地示出。它们可位于鼻部108的相对的上表面153和下表面154上,上接合部件150可为凹槽155形式,该凹槽155在鼻部108的上表面153上布置的两肩部156之间横向延伸。内部的相对边缘157是倾斜的,从而与引导框架300鸠尾接合(图6)。这样,上接合部件具有倾斜部。
同样地,壳体101还包括第二接合部件152,该第二接合部件152也为凹槽160形式,该凹槽160布置在壳体鼻部108的下表面154上。该凹槽160优选与上凹槽155沿共同的竖直轴线RA(图6)相对准。下凹槽160具有两个不同的部分161、162。中空基部161设置在其底部上,该中空基部161具有多个如图2最佳示出的规则布置的相邻平坦表面(即多表面)163。平坦表面163相互连接在一起以形成半八边形开口(图3),并在子组件100完全插入引导框架300内时邻接内部引导框架300的下保持部件340的面对平坦表面343。这些平坦表面163、343阻止了壳体101相对于内部引导框架300的相对旋转。可以看出,上和下(第一和第二)保持部件330、340在结构上是相似的,都是有点带鸠尾的并且其末端宽于其基部,但是彼此相对倒置,即上部件在下端宽而下部件在上端宽。
壳体101的下凹槽160还包括靠近中空基部161的上部162,上部162为与下部161相通的横向狭槽165的形式。如图6所示,狭槽165具有倾斜结构(从而允许鸠尾接合),其相对上凹槽156倒置,即其上边缘比下边缘宽。两腿部166可位于下凹槽152两侧,用于对下接合部件152的模塑成型提供结构支撑,并可沿壳体101的底部向前突出。这些腿部166被容纳在内部引导框架300的下壁306上形成的两通道350内(图12)。附加接合点例如抵接壳体101的肩部351可设置在内部引导框架300上。
壳体101的前表面106提供有止动表面,该止动表面接触护罩的上保持部件330的后表面以在护罩内固定壳体101的位置,同时壳体的下凹槽160的平坦表面163提供类似的止动表面功能。同样地,上凹槽155和下凹槽160的鸠尾部分的倾斜表面用于阻止子组件100的侧向和垂直运动。可以看出内部引导框架300的保持部件和壳体101的接合部件(凹槽155、160)协作形成用于可靠地将护罩和子组件接合在一起的装置。
壳体101的结构还可接合护罩,例如图13和图14中所示的护罩200。护罩一般用于对准面板10’安装子组件100,并提供将壳体101暴露于电子组件的外部的开口(图14)。因此护罩200为多壁结构,其具有中空内部并基本上将子组件100包围,除了端子尾部117突出的底部区域部分。由于子组件100和护罩200的所述结构,子组件100被插入护罩200内以形成连接到电路板301的一组件,而不是将子组件100布置在电路板301上,然后将护罩200放置在子组件100的上方。
在这种设置中,壳体101的下接合凹槽152将接触并接合紧固件(图15-20),该紧固件用于通过一对接扣件(未示出)将护罩200固定到电路板301。壳体101的外部肋131(图1)也将优选摩擦接合护罩200的内侧壁以将壳体101对中置于护罩200的中空内部。
护罩200被示出安装到接合EMI垫圈270的托架10’。护罩200具有多个壁,例如两个相对的侧壁210、212,上壁214,底板216和后壁218。EMI垫圈被粘附到护罩的前端部,并具有多个被托架接触的弹簧臂或指状部。在一实施方式中,连接器可包括螺纹件290,其可以是内螺纹件,例如螺母290,其通过底板216由护罩200支撑,并提供将子组件100和护罩200作为一组件固定到电路板301的装置。护罩可以被改进以形成具有接口的成套结构,如图19-21所示。在这种结构中,紧固螺母290可通过护罩在每个接口上固定就位,螺母的一端在向后的方向上作为接合子组件100的接触面。
在这一点上,紧固件(可以是任意想要的紧固件)这样设置,使得通过连接器与紧固件(或螺纹件)290的接合来限制连接器在护罩200内沿向前方向的插入。这种结构允许螺纹构件290和壳体101之间至少有三个接触点290a、290b和290c,从而连接器的位置沿纵向和横向延伸的两个轴线来控制。护罩200可包括沿其下边缘形成的多个垂片220,这些垂片被容纳在底板216上沿边缘形成的狭槽222内,在该边缘处底板216的一部分向上弯曲形成垂直凸缘224。底板还设有凹口226,该凹口具有与螺纹构件例如紧固螺母290互补的结构,并且还包括多个围绕凹口设置的垂片228,这些垂片用于将紧固螺母290在护罩的底板216上固定就位。这些垂片228优选如图22所示在紧固螺母290上面和下面延伸以将其固定就位。子组件100还包括沿其下边缘的切口175(图3和21),如图所示,紧固螺母290的末端可延伸到切口内。
应该注意,虽然已经公开了引导框架和护罩的实施方式的详细特征,但是除非另外提及,这些特征并不是意在限制。特别地,子组件可被设置成接合引导框架和护罩上设置的特征,从而允许在内部或外部应用中安装该子组件的灵活性。
应理解的是,上述示出的实施方式具有对于本领域的技术人员来说是很明显的许多改进,例如密集连接器组件和/或其部件的许多变化和改进,包括这里公开的特征的组合(在这里单独公开或主张),特别包括这些特征的附加组合或其它类型的接触阵列连接器。同样,在材料和结构上也具有许多可能的变化。这些改进和/或组合落入本发明所涉及的领域内,并随之落入后附权利要求的范围内。应注意到,按照惯例,权利要求中的单一元件的使用也意在包括一个或多个这种元件。
Claims (13)
1.一种子组件,其包括:
壳体,其具有安装表面、前表面、从所述前表面延伸的鼻部和在所述鼻部上的对接面,所述对接面具有第一卡容纳槽和第二卡容纳槽,所述壳体具有在所述安装表面上的开口并具有第一接合部件和第二接合部件,所述第一接合部件和第二接合部件邻近所述前表面设置并位于所述鼻部的两侧上;以及
多个针座,其设置在所述壳体内,每个针座包括多个导电端子,所述端子具有延伸出所述安装表面上的所述开口的尾部,所述端子具有布置在所述第一卡容纳槽和第二卡容纳槽内的接触部,其中,所述壳体在四侧上包围所述针座。
2.根据权利要求1所述的子组件,其特征在于,所述第一接合部件和第二接合部件被设置在所述鼻部的相对的表面上。
3.根据权利要求2所述的子组件,其特征在于,所述第一接合部件是倾斜的,并被设置成与一引导框架形成鸠尾接合。
4.根据权利要求3所述的子组件,其特征在于,所述第二接合部件是多面的,并被设置成与一紧固件的多个侧面相接合。
5.根据权利要求4所述的子组件,其特征在于,所述凹槽包括至少三个平坦表面。
6.根据权利要求3所述的子组件,其特征在于,所述第二接合部件包括被设置成与一引导框架形成鸠尾接合的倾斜部。
7.根据权利要求1所述的子组件,其特征在于,所述第一接合部件设置在所述鼻部的上侧,所述第二接合部件设置在所述鼻部的下侧。
8.一种子组件,其包括:
多个针座,每个针座包括绝缘框架和由所述框架支撑的多个导电端子,所述端子具有沿所述针座的一侧延伸的尾部和沿所述针座的第二侧延伸并伸出的控制部;
壳体,其由绝缘材料制成,并具有主体部和从所述主体部向前突出的鼻部,所述壳体具有容纳所述针座的中空内部,所述端子的接触部在所述壳体的鼻部内延伸并位于所述鼻部内形成的卡容纳槽的相对两侧上;
所述壳体包括在所述鼻部的两个不同表面上设置的第一接合部件和第二接合部件,所述第一接合部件和第二接合部件中的每一个都包括沿所述壳体纵向延伸的凹槽,所述凹槽与所述针座相对准,从而所述第一凹槽和第二凹槽设置成邻近所述端子的接触部,其中,所述壳体被设置成接合引导框架和护罩。
9.根据权利要求8所述的子组件,其特征在于,所述第一凹槽和第二凹槽分别设置在所述鼻部的上表面和下表面上。
10.根据权利要求9所述的子组件,其特征在于,所述第一凹槽包括多个倾斜布置在其内的平坦表面,以在其内容纳和接合紧固螺母。
11.根据权利要求8所述的子组件,其特征在于,所述第一凹槽和第二凹槽沿共同的轴线相互对准。
12.根据权利要求11所述的子组件,其特征在于,所述第一凹槽具有倾斜结构,从而在操作中所述第一凹槽与所述引导框架形成鸠尾接合。
13.根据权利要求12所述的子组件,其特征在于,所述第二凹槽也具有倾斜结构,从而在操作中所述第二凹槽与所述引导框架形成另一个鸠尾接合。
