效果不好的已知低度聚合的聚合物的本身生物降解
能力并没有丧失。
Description
本发明涉及新的可生物降解的水溶性洗涤剂,分散剂和/或水处理共聚物。更具体讲,本发明涉及的是这种发现,即低度聚合的羧官能单体与多官能单体共聚后生成具有良好洗涤效果的化合物,而原来已知洗涤效果不好的低度聚合的聚合物的固有生物降解能力并没有丧失。
在水处理中,特别是在洗涤剂应用中,大量化学品可进入到环境中并最终留在地下水或敞开的地表水中。因此,非常希望这些化学品可生物降解。已知无机磷化合物通常在洗涤剂组合物中用作助洗剂,虽然这些化合物高效和无毒性,但因为它们能造成植物的快速生长并导致湖泊过肥化。因此在过去三十年中人们在洗涤工业中已进行了多种尝试,以将过肥的多磷酸盐转变为环境更易接受的物质,如沉淀组分(例如碳酸钠)和多羧酸聚合物(例如,聚丙烯酸)。在相似情况中,广泛使用的烷基苯磺酸盐(ABC)(可能最常用作洗涤剂添加剂)已被它们的可生物降解的对应物(LAS)所取代,以消除它们在地下水或地上水中的聚集及伴随的起泡问题。
虽然目前在洗涤剂和水处理应用中使用的多羧酸聚合物和共聚物没有象含磷无机组分或产生泡沫的ABS表面活性剂那样的缺陷,前面已谈到,最希望的是大量使用的化学品可生物降解。
令人遗憾的是,大多数用作洗涤剂或分散剂或水处理化学品的多羧酸聚合物和共聚物没有高生物降解能力。低聚合度(低“OP”)的聚合物比较容易生物降解,但令人遗憾的是它们作为洗涤剂添加剂或水处理化学品时效果不好。高聚合度的聚合物和共聚物作为洗涤剂添加剂效果很好,但它们没有高生物降解能力。事实上,目前所用一典型的水处理聚合物来自于丙烯酸或异丁烯酸或含马来酸、衣康酸和相似单烯属不饱和二羧酸的聚合物或共聚物。
已试图通过使用含两个烯属不饱和双链的共聚单体来提供可生物降解的水溶性聚合物。这方面的工作可见1988年5月7日提出的欧洲专利申请№.291,808(已转让给BASF Aktiengerellschaft)。这些聚合物的研究表明它们做起来很困难。
低DP(<10)的多酸可生物降解,但却不能增强洗涤效果。我们现已发现酸官能单体的低DP聚合物和共聚物可通过各种键或增链,从而生成不仅保持了低DP聚合物的好的生物降解能力,而且做为洗涤剂添加剂和水处理化学品有良好效果的共聚物。
我们已发现,这些可生物降解的共聚物可通过几条途径。(但不限于此)来合成;多官能基单体和酸官能基单体的共聚可采用在水溶液中自由基聚合法,更优选的是,自由基聚合法利用金属离子来控制聚合物的分子量和聚合度;和采用1988,1,11提交的共同未决美国专利申请№.142,102中所记载的工艺间官能化(该申请转让给了本发明的转让人)。其中,在多醇存在下制备的低DP酸官能基加成聚合物,可同时也可在后面聚合反应中或在二者结合的情况下通过,例如:酯化反应,与该多醇进行反应。
本发明归于这种发现,即用于制备在先有技术中已知的相对无生物降解能力的水溶性聚合物的酸官能基单体可用来形成非常低分子量的聚合物和共聚物,它们可通过各种聚合物的键键合或增链以形成更高分子量的且作为生物降解洗涤剂添加剂等有良好效果的聚合物。
本发明的可生物降解的水溶性共聚物可由下式表示:

“X”为基本上呈直链且具有n个重复单体单元的嵌段加聚物或共聚物链段,它包括至少3个羧酸基团或其盐,在每个单元中,n平均为3-20的整数;和
“Y”为衍生于多官能基(或聚乙烯基)单体的交联剂链段,该交联剂可以预先制备或与所述聚合物X一起制备,并含2-4个其轭或非共轭烯属不饱和双键。Y也可是衍生于多醇反应的链段,因此,该多醇既可同时,也可在后面的聚合中或在这二者结合的情况下,通过例如酯化反应与X反应,
“p”是单个分子中交联链段(Y)的数目。在1个以上的交联链段连到聚合物或共聚物链段(X)上时,p大于1。因此,p为1时,该分子为X-Y-X,其中Y为二烯属不饱和交联剂,而分子X-Y-X-Y-X代表一种情况,即所述聚乙烯基交联剂与X链段结合成大分子(P=3),等等。
X聚合物链段以衍生于酸官能基的烯属不饱和单体比较有利,这些单体包括常用于洗涤剂、分散剂和水处理的那些物质(如在前述欧洲专利申请中所示的那些),但优选丙烯酸、异丁烯酸、马来酸、衣康酸、巴豆酸、乙烯基乙酸、丙烯酰氧丙酸、它们的相应单体及其混合物。酸官能基单体包括每当量聚乙烯基化合物主要量的本发明共聚物,优选2-50摩尔,更优选3-10摩尔。
Y交联剂链段衍生于带多个双链的烯属不饱和单体,如乙二醇二丙烯酸酯、二甲基丙烯酸酯、马来酸氢酯或二衣康酸酯;三羟甲基丙烷三丙烯酸酯、三异丁烯酸酯、三马来酸酯或三衣康酸酯;季戊四醇四丙烯酸酯、四异丁烯酸酯、四马来酸酯或四衣康酸酯;聚氧化乙烯(如聚环氧乙烷,聚环氧丙烷,聚环氧丁烷)的二丙烯酸酯、二异丁烯酸酯、二马来酸酯或二衣康酸酯;烯化氧的嵌段共聚物或任何这些“大链节”的混合物,可水解的多羟基醇的其它酯也适于与酸官能基单体反应。用于与马来酐或类似酐结合和/或增链低DP酸官能基共聚物的更优选的多烯属不饱和聚合物(交联剂)是聚乙二醇或其它多元醇。这些共聚物(大链节)的形成在后面具体实例中描述,其可用水溶性链转移剂,如硫醇或亚硫酸氢盐或次磷酸盐和水溶性引发剂,如过硫酸盐,过氧化氢或叔丁基过氧化氢加以制备。
用作增链(交联)基团的这些多烯属不饱和聚合物通常包括少量本发明共聚物(少于约40%摩尔),剩下的共聚物衍生于一种或多种适宜酸官能基单体和选加的其它官能基或非官能基的单体。
本发明的共聚物采用控制分子量的各种聚合技术来制备,例如,自由基聚合法;上述共同未决专利申请中所记载的工艺间官能化,其中低DP酸官能基加聚物是在多醇存在下,同时或在随后的聚合反应中或二者结合下,通过例如酯化反应,与多醇反应来制备的,和利用金属盐的水溶液聚合法。
更优选的本发明生物降解水溶性共聚物是指在酸官能基共聚物链中具有低DP数目的那些共聚物,尤其指DP为3-20的那些,更优选的是3-10的那些共聚物。为了控制分子量(或控制聚合物链的长度),制备本发明共聚物的更优选方法是利用低浓度的水溶性金属盐。虽然这里出现的方法机理还不十分清楚,但肯定在本发明反应中使用的金属盐起着聚合调节剂作用,这就是说,它们控制着分子量,链长和支化度,还可进一步肯定的是该聚合调节剂导致形成短而非支链的链,由此得到生物降解能力更强的链。这与为改进生物降解性将上述支化的烷基苯磺酸盐(ABS)用它们的直链对应物(LAS)取代的情况类似。即使对本发明共聚物来讲优先选用实质上为直链的共聚物,但带有大量不能生物降解的支链的链也可担当这里所述的用途。这里提出的本发明理论可用来解释所得到的出人意料的结果,但其不意味着限制本发明范围。
本发明应用了非常低浓度的水溶性金属盐,如铜、铁、钴和锰盐,以酸官能聚合单体的重量计,盐含量为每份金属离子约1-200份(ppm),优选约5-100ppm。更优选的金属盐是铜盐,包括在水溶液中可产生铜离子的所有无机和有机化合物。适宜的铜盐有:硫酸铜,硝酸铜和氯化铜。适宜的有机铜化合物包括乙酸铜和惰性的水溶性铜配合物。铜盐可用作唯一金属源或,也可以与其它过渡金属结合。反应中存在的金属离子量对于本发明的聚合反应是关键的。如果金属离子浓度过高,单体转换百分比就会降低到不能接受的低水平;如果金属离子浓度过低,则上述控制分子量的作用就会被削弱。
多烯属不饱和增链剂和酸官能基单体之间的聚合反应适宜在水溶性的引发剂存在下进行。所用的水溶性引发剂是已知的过氧化物,过硫酸盐和偶氮引发剂,它们包括过氧化氢,叔丁基过氧化氢,过硫酸钠,过硫酸钾,过硫酸铵,过磷酸钠,过磷酸铵,过磷酸钾和2,2-偶氮双(氰基戊酸)。过氧化氢在这些引发剂中最好优选,引发剂浓度一般占单体总重的0.5%-20%,优选1-10%。
多烯属不饱和增链聚合物(交联剂)和酸官能基单体的聚合反应是在约20-80%固含量,优选约30-65%固含量下进行的。聚合温度为约80-150℃,优选90-120℃。
聚合反应可采用分批法或连续法进行。当采用分批法时,单体加料速率为1-10小时,优选1-4小时,当采用连续法时,驻留时间至少为30分钟。如果残留单体浓度高于所需的后聚合所需浓度,则可加入引发剂(Charer催化剂)或引发剂和单体净化剂。
通常加入占单体混合物酸含量的20-80%当量碱的工艺间中和溶液,优选40-60%。在整个聚合中,中和溶液优选以线性加到反应器中。适宜的碱包括氢氧化钠,氢氧化钾和氢氧化铵。反应溶液的PH应保持在3-7,最优选为约4-6。
上述共聚物被用做洗涤剂和清洁剂的添加剂和分散剂或水处理化学品,它们可加到粉末或液体配方中。洗涤剂和清洗剂一般是以表面活性剂和沉淀剂或除垢助洗剂为基础的。在液体洗涤剂中,可省去助洗剂。举例来说,适宜的表面活性剂为阴离子表面活性剂,如C8-C12烷基苯磺酸盐,C12-C16烷基磺酸盐,C12-C16烷基硫酸盐,C12-C16烷基磺基琥珀酸盐和C12-C16硫酸化的乙氧基烷醇。非离子表面活性剂有:C6-C12烷基苯酚乙氧化物,C12-C20烷醇烷氧化物和环氧乙烷与环氧丙烷的嵌段共聚物。聚氧化烯的端基可选择性地被封闭。这意味着聚氧化烯的游离OH可被醚化,酯化,缩醛化和或胺化。另一种改型是将聚氧化烯的游离OH与异氰酸酯反应。
非离子表面活性剂还包括C4-C18烷基糖苷及通过烷氧化得到的烷氧化产物,特别是由烷基糖苷与环氧乙烷反应得到的那些产物,在洗涤剂中使用的活性剂还可具有两性特征,它们可是肥皂。表面活性剂一般占洗涤剂和清洁剂重的2-50%(重量),优选5-45%。
洗涤剂和清洗剂所含的除垢助洗剂有:磷酸盐,正磷酸盐,焦磷酸盐,尤其是三聚磷酸钠。其次是沸石,碳酸钠,多磷酸,次氮基三乙酸,柠檬酸,酒石酸,这些酸的盐和磷酸盐单体、低聚物或聚合物。在制备洗涤剂组合物中所用的各个成份量是变化的。例如,碳酸钠的用量为80%以下,磷酸盐的用量为45%以下,沸石的用量为40%以下。次氮基三乙酸和膦酸酯的用量为10%以下,多羧酸用量为30%以下,这些百分比为占整个洗涤剂组合物重量的重量百分比。由于使用磷酸盐造成的严重环境污染,洗涤剂和清洗剂中的磷酸盐含量正逐渐降低,目前的洗涤剂最多含25%磷酸盐或最好不含磷酸盐。
本发明的可生物降解的共聚物也可用作液体洗涤剂的添加剂。液体洗涤剂一般含有液体组分或在洗涤剂组合物中可溶或至少可分散的固体表面活性剂中的组分。
适用于这种目的的表面活性剂是也可用于粉末洗涤剂的产物,此外,可以使用液态聚氧化烯化物或聚烷氧化的化合物。
洗涤剂组合物可选意含缓蚀剂,如作为额外添加剂的硅酸盐。适宜的硅酸盐的例子有:硅酸钠,焦硅酸钠和硅酸钠。缓蚀剂含量占洗涤剂和清洗剂配方重量的25%以下。洗涤剂和清洗剂组合物中常用的其它添加剂有:含量30%(重量)以下的漂白剂。适宜的漂白剂的例子有:过硼酸盐或能生氯的物质,如氯异氰脲酸盐。可用于洗涤剂中的另一类添加剂是抗泛灰剂,已知的这类物质有:羧甲基纤维素,甲基纤维素,羟丙甲基纤维素和分子量1000-15,000的乙酸乙烯酯与聚氯化烯的接枝共聚物。抗泛灰剂在洗涤剂配方中的量为5%以下。其它可任意使用的普通洗涤剂添加剂有:荧光增白剂,酶和香料。粉末状洗涤剂配方也可含50%(重量)以下的稀释剂,如硫酸钠。洗涤剂配方可以是无水的,也可以含少量水(10%以下)。液态洗涤剂通常含80%以下的水。
上述可生物降解共聚物可加到所有洗涤剂和清洗剂组合物中。为此,它们以占整个配方重的0.5-30%(重量)的量使用,优选1-15%(重量)。在大多数情况下,尤其当用作污物再沉积抑制剂时,可生物降解共聚物的实际用量优选为占洗涤剂和清洗剂重的2-10重量%。尤其重要的是:本发明添加剂是以无磷酸盐和低磷酸盐用到洗涤剂和清洗剂中的。低磷酸盐配方最多含25%的三聚磷酸钠或焦磷酸钠。从它们的生物降解能力看,本发明共聚物优选用于无磷酸盐配方并可用做助洗涤来代替磷酸盐。
如需要,本发明的可生物降解共聚物可与丙烯酸与马来酸的非生物降解共聚物或丙烯酸均聚物一起用于洗涤剂组合物中。上述无生物降解能力的聚合物目前在洗涤剂组合物中用做污物再沉积抑制剂。除前述聚合物外,C3-C6单羧酸和二羧酸或马来酸酐和C1-C4烷基乙烯醚的共聚物也适宜作为污物再沉积抑制剂。均聚物和共聚物的分子量为1000-100,000。如需要,这些污物再沉积抑制剂可以占整个组合物重最多20%的量与本发明的可生物降解共聚物一起用于洗涤剂中。虽然基于上述聚合物的已知污物再沉淀抑制剂无生物降解能力,但在水处理厂中,由于它们可被吸附到活性的污泥上。因此它们可与活性污泥一起从废水中除去。可生物降解的共聚物可以游离酸或完全或部分中和的形式加到洗涤剂化合物中。
本发明共聚物的其它应用包括分散应用,如用于造纸中的含粘土水分散体,和在水处理中作为抗成核剂,其中少量共聚物作为结晶形成或冷却塔或锅炉中结垢的最低限度抑制剂。当用于抑制结晶形成或结垢时,水溶性聚丙烯酸酯常与缓蚀剂,如无机或有机磷酸盐或膦酸盐或金属盐如锌化合物等结合起来使用。
下面的具体实施例是为了描述本发明的具体实施方案,它不意味着限制本发明。
实施例1-马来酸氢酯共聚物
制备PEG400马来酸氢酯共聚用单体增链剂或交联剂
往装有机械搅拌,温度计和冷凝器的1升烧瓶中加入324g聚乙二醇400,159g马来酸酐,和9.6g对-甲苯磺酸(占总量的2%)。加热烧瓶中物料至95g,保持该温度直至通过滴定检测,滴度为理论的50%为止。
通过上面的方法,可将各种其它聚乙二醇聚合物和多羟基醇与各种单烯属不饱和酸酐,如马来酸酐,衣康酸酐和柠康酸酐,反应来制备用于本发明的适宜的共聚用单体。其它多羟基醇包括甘油,季戊四醇,单糖类和糖酸类。
实施例2
往备有机械搅拌器,冷凝器,温度计和加单体,引发剂和中和剂的入口的2升4颈烧瓶中加入224g去离子水和11.8g 0.15%硫酸酮五水合物溶液。将烧瓶中成份加热到回流,然后将由实施例1得到的152g聚乙二醇400/马来酸氢酯的单体溶液,180.2克冰丙烯酸,76.4g30%过氧化氢的引发剂溶液和12.8g去离子水及120g50%氢氧化钠(50%中和当量)的中和剂溶液和88g去离子水线性地单独加入,同时保持回流,历时2小时。当进料完全时,继续回流30分钟。
得到的聚合物溶液中固重量为42.5%,PH=4.7。由硅胶渗透色谱(GPG)测得的分子量是:
Mw=3220,Mn=1800。
实施例3
往备有机械搅拌器,冷凝器,温度计,加单体、引发剂和中和剂入口的2升4颈烧瓶中加入192g去离子水和5.9g0.15%硫酸铜五水合物溶液。将烧瓶中成份加热至回流,然后在保持回流及2小时内,将152g由实施例1得到的聚乙二醇400/马来酸氢酯的单体溶液,90.1%冰丙烯酸,46.4g30%过氧化氢的引发剂溶液和96g50%氢氧化钠(中和50%当量)的中和液及57g去离子水呈线性分别加入。当进料完全时,继续回流30分钟。
生物降解试验
一些上述接枝共聚物的生物降解能力列于下面表中。聚合物生物降解的能力是根据BOD(生物需氧)试验在0-100%范围测定的。BOD步骤见水和废水检验的标准方法中所述的方法,第16版,525页(1985)。所用的BOD试验是一密闭瓶试验,其中待试验的聚合物溶液和无机盐用市政下水道中细菌接种。通过食氧量表示生物降解作用,即通过测量溶在溶液中的氧量来测定。表Ⅱ提供的BOD试验结果是5mg/300ml浓度和试验时间。
洗涤剂配方和效果评估
将一块4″×4″白棉布样品用约Skippack粘土的1g50%泥浆(在水中)弄脏。在样品中央附着2″直径圈的灰尘于空气中过夜干燥。干净的织物(用于再沉积试验)是没被弄脏的4″×4″白棉布样品。
于下面条件:40℃,100rpm,100ppm硬度(50%城市自水来/50%去离子水),3分钟洗一次,洗12分钟,1300ppm洗涤剂,每罐中5块布(其中3块弄上土了)。将洗涤用的水预热,将织物样品加入,然后加入溶解的洗涤剂(100mls水中2.6g50%泥浆)。接着洗涤该样品,并拧干,接着再洗涤,再拧干,然后将洗涤样品空气干躁。用含聚丙烯酸均聚物的洗涤剂洗涤的样品被用作对照。
用Pacific Scientific Colorimeter(Colorgard System 1000)测量反射率,用L,a,b颜色范围记录数据。洗涤值(E)和漂白指数(W.I)如下计算:
E=V(Ls-L)2+(as-a)2+(bs-b)2
W.I=L/100(L-(5.715×b))
其中Ls,as和bs是着土样品的反射率,L,a,b是洗涤样品的反射率,用三种不同洗涤实验评估每种聚合物,所得结果与作为对照的聚丙烯酸均聚物比较。表Ⅰ中的洗涤组合物用于上述洗涤效果评估,洗涤效果评估的结果和生物降解数据列于表Ⅱ。还可有其它洗涤剂组成,但不限于表Ⅲ和Ⅳ中使用的本发明聚合物的组成。

Claims (18)
1、具有助洗、分散和最低限度抑制性且由下式表示的新的一类可生物降解水溶性多
[(Xn)>1-4(Y)]p
羧酸共聚物;
其中:
X为具有几个重复单体单元且为直链形式的加聚或嵌段聚合物或共聚物链段,每个单元含至少3个羧酸基或其盐;
n为3-20的数
Y为由含2-4个非共轭烯不饱和双键的多官能基单体衍生的链段;p为每个分子中Y链段的数目,其中所述共聚物BOD值大于25%。
2、权利要求1的共聚物,其中X聚合物链段优先由选自丙烯酸,异丁烯酸,马来酸,衣康酸,巴豆酸,乙烯基乙酸,丙烯酰氧丙酸或它们的混合物的单和/或二羧酸单体衍生。
3、权利要求1的共聚物,其中聚合物链段Y至少为一个大链节,其选自二丙烯酸或二异丁烯酸或二马来酸或二衣康酸的乙二醇酯;三丙烯酸,三异丁烯酸,三马来酸,三衣康酸的三羟甲基丙酯;四丙烯酸或四异丁烯或四马来酸四衣康酸的季戊四醇酯;聚环氧烷的二丙烯酸酯,二异丁烯酸酯,二马来酸酯或二衣康酸酯,如聚环氧乙氧,聚环氧丙烷,聚环氧丁烷,和亚烷基氧化物的共聚物或这些大链节的混合物。
4、权利要求1的共聚物,其中X聚合物链段的含量为每当量Y链段2-50摩尔。
5、权利要求1的共聚物,其中X聚合物片段为一聚异丁烯酸酯聚合物链。
6、权利要求1的聚合物,其中X聚合物片段是一聚异丁烯酸酯/马来酸酯聚合物链。
7、权利要求1的共聚物,其中Y聚合物片段是乙二醇或聚氧化烯的二异丁烯酸酯。
8、含有起着洗涤助洗剂或抗结壳剂作用的足够量权利要求1共聚物的清洗剂组合物。
9、权利要求8的清洗组合物,其中共聚物是洗涤助洗剂,并且其占组合物重的5-50%(重量)。
10、权利要求8的清洗组合物,其中该共聚物是抗结壳剂并占该组合物重的1-10%(重量)。
11、包括权利要求1共聚物的分散剂或水处理组合物。
12、制备具有助洗,分散和最低限度抑制性质的可生物降解水溶性多羧酸共聚物的方法,该方法特征在于:在聚合条件下,将酸官能基单体或聚合物与烯不饱和单体或聚合物反应,得到
[(Xn)(Y)]p代表的共聚物,
其中:
X为直链且具有几个重复单体单位的加聚或嵌段聚合物或共聚物片段,每个所述单位包括至少3个羧酸基或它们的盐;
n为3-20的整数;
Y为由含2-4个非共轭烯不饱和双键的多功能基单体衍生的片段;
P为每个分子中Y片段的数目,该共聚物的BOD值大于25%。
13、权利要求2的方法,特征在于:X聚合物片段优选由选自丙烯酸,异丁烯酸,马来酸,衣康酸,巴豆酸,乙烯基乙酸,丙烯酰氧丙酸或它们的混合物的单或二羧酸单体衍生。
14、权利要求12的方法,其特征在于:聚合物片段Y至少为一个大链节,其选自二丙烯酸或二异丁烯酸或二马来酸或二衣康酸的乙二醇酯;三丙烯酸,三异丁烯酸,三马来酸,三衣康酸的三羟甲基丙酯;四丙烯酸或四异丁烯酸或四马来酸或四衣康酸的季戊四醇酯;聚环氧烷,如聚环氧乙烷,聚环氧丙烷,聚环氧丁烷,的二丙烯酸酯,二异丁烯酸酯,二马来酸酯或二衣康酸酯,和环氧烷的嵌段共聚物或这些大链节的混合物。
15、根据权利要求12的方法,其特征在于:相对于每当量Y片段,X聚合物片段包括2-50摩尔。
16、根据权利要求12的方法,其特征在于:X聚合物片段是聚异丁烯酸酯聚合物链。
17、根据权利要求12的方法,其特征在于:X聚合物片段是聚异丁烯酸酯/马来酸酯聚合物链。
18、根据权利要求12的方法,其特征在于:Y聚合物片段是乙二醇或聚环氧烷的二异丁烯酸酯。
