Abstract

"GENES CODIFICADORES PARA POLIPETìDIOS DE <255>-GALACTOSIDASE DE TOMATES". A presente invenção fornece uma nova família de genes de <255>-galactosidase e seq³ências de DNA derivadas da clonagem de produtos codificadores de cDNAs desses genes, conforme exemplificado por uma proteína de <255>-galactosidase II, que é codificada por um clone de cDNA, pZBG-1-4. Um método para modificação do metabolismo da parede celular que envolve a modificação da atividade de pelo menos uma <255>-galactosidase e, portanto, modificando a qualidade do fruto é também fornecido. Também fornecido pela presente invenção é uma construção de DNA incluindo alguma ou toda a seq³ência de DNA de <255>-galactosídase, sob controle de uma região de iniciação transcricional operativa em plantas, de modo que a construção pode gerar DNA e, opcionalmente, polipetídio de <255>-galactosidase nas células das plantas. A presente invenção também se refere a vetores recombinantes, que incluem moléculas de ácido nucléico isoladas da presente invenção, e a células hospedeiras contendo os vetores recombinantes, assim como a métodos de produzir tais vetores e células hospedeiras e para uso dos mesmos para produção de polipetídios ou peptídios de <255>-galactosidase por técnicas recombinantes. A presente invenção também fornece células de plantas contendo construções de DNA da presente invenção; plantas derivadas das mesmas tendo expressão de gene de <255>-galactosidase modificada e sementes produzidas a partir de tais plantas.
